. . .
"So, genius, how am I supposed to cross that barrier?"
The same devil that has been traveling with me for the past few weeks tested my patience. Lucky for him, I had a lot to give.
The familiar scent and breeze of frost encircled my wings as we neared the place of my birth. Sulfus might as well be the first devil to visit this realm, question is, will he be able to survive the cold and harsh winds and temperatures? I can already tell that he was starting to shiver, his horns started to glow bright red and his bat-like wings were struggling to balance itself with the gust of chilly wind. His cheeks turned a little purple due to his pale complexion and his teeth began to rattle.
He remained in such condition for a while until we had to stop on one of the curves on one of the mountains' edge. I could see Sulfus exhaled deeply, his breath formed a cloud of condensation in the cold air. He pressed his hands together, near his face and it was then when I noticed that the tip of his slender fingers was the color of his hair. His eyes widen, perhaps he's now noticing it as well.
I sat beside him to inspect such strange phenomenon closely.
"Is it normal for your fingers to turn dark like that? You know, for devils?"
"N-no. I have never heard of such a thing happen to one, yet this is happening to me. Wh-what to do think it means?" He asked while shuddering.
"It looks painful, does it hurt?"
He furrowed his eyebrows as his hair shifted to one side. "How am I supposed to feel pain when my fingers are already numbed?"
My hand went over to reach his but I stopped myself before I can cause him to feel more numbed. I remembered when I first gave him the Libra's Mark, it was the first time I've ever came in contact with a devil and perhaps vice versa. It was the first time I felt what heat is like. The day after that, my body was scorching and I felt like a bunch of icicles empaled me. I have looked over see what was going on with me yet I only found a strange red streak that encircled a crystal on my left palm.
The Veto.
Until that day, I thought the Veto only applied to angels and devils. This occurrence has led me to question the actual history between fairies and devils. Why would there be a Veto placed between them? We weren't involved with the Thousand Centuries War. Maybe it's the Libra's Decree. Hopefully, I will find the answers when I get home but there was something I have to ask Sulfus first.
"Sulfus, the day after I gave you the Libra's Mark, did you feel anything strange after that?"
"If you're referring to the pain I felt, sure."
I shook my head. "No after that. When I woke up the next morning, I saw a weird mark on my left palm."
Sulfus stood up a little in interest. "Yes, I had one to. I didn't know there was a Veto between fairies and devils. Now, the one question I want an answer to is why."
"Which is one of the reasons why we're here. Trust me, the librarians in the Golden School will get suspicious about such topic. The Headmasters Cassidy and Kubral definitely. I don't trust their character; they are up to something."
For a second, I thought Sulfus wanted to tell me something until he hissed due to the freezing cold, I believe.
"If you continue on like that, you'll become an eternal popsicle." I said to him in worry.
