WARNING: YOU GUYS ARE ALL GONNA HATE ME MUAH HAHAHA😈😈

It had been about four years since you had last seen Boyd. It was now April of 1945 and you had a feeling that the war was coming to an end soon. Even though you hadn't seen Boyd for that period of time, he wrote you a letter every week to which you replied to with a letter of your own. You had learned so much stuff about what was going on down there that you felt like you were there along side him. The last letter he sent said that they had finally entered Germany and were fighting hard there and that he might not be able to write as much because there was so much fighting. You were disappointed about that because that's what kept your going, well that and Shay. She had grown so much in the last four years, and so had your relationship with her. It was like she could feel what kind of mood you were in and she was always there to cheer you up no matter what which helped cope with Boyd being away. She was pretty much the only thing you had to keep you company. You rarely left the house, only for groceries and such, because you didn't have a job because Boyd's steady paycheque came in every month and it was enough to keep you and Shay going. You also had no close friends which was kind of pathetic but you didn't care. Right now, you were trying to keep it together until Boyd came back. That was your goal; to tough it out until he got back home, which you knew should happen eventually. You walked outside with Shay trailing behind you to go and look in the mail box to see if anything had come and to your surprise and delight, there was a letter from Boyd. You quickly walked back inside and sat down at the table to open the letter.

"Shay come here! Boyd sent a letter!" You yelled and Shay came running. She loved hearing the letters just as much as you did. You cleared your throat and began reading.

"Dear (Y/N) and Shay,

I know I said that I wouldn't be writing anymore letter for a while, but I hate time to write you one more time. We're still in Germany territory and all is quiet. It's like it's the calm before the storm. Thing is, I know it's gonna get worse before it gets better, but even so, I think the war'll come to an end real soon. But before that happens there's gonna be a lot of deaths. We lost Red just the other day and it took a toll on the whole company. Don blames himself even thought he doesn't show it, but I know he does. But it wasn't his fault, it was the Germans. I know it's God's will, but it wasn't fair that Red had to die. Now, he's been replaced by a kid named Norman. From the first time I saw him I already knew that he was too soft for war. I really wish that he didn't have to go through all of this because he doesn't deserve to have another and blood on his hands, no one does. Now, we were ordered to rescue allied troops that are under heavy enemy fire then secure a crossroad. Hopefully that will all go smoothly. I miss you though. I wish you were here now and I could hold you in my arms. But hopefully, God permit, I'll come home in one piece. I love you so much babe and can't wait to come home and see you. Also, Grady says hi, but I'm running out of time, and we're gonna be leaving soon. Again, I love you with all my heart.

Love Boyd"

You finished and neatly folded the paper as Shay barked. You put the letter in a large wooden box along with all of the other letter Boyd had sent you and sat back down. You were nervous, well you were always nervous when Boyd sent you letters like that. You just hoped and prayed that it would all go smoothly.

It had been three weeks since Boyd had written you a letter and you were scared. You knew it was probably because he was busy or it got lost in transit. That happened a lot. You sighed and finished washing the small amount of dished that you had made from cooking lunch. Shay was sitting contently on the floor beside you and the radio was playing softly when you noticed that Boyd's favourite song was on; The Old Rugged Cross. You turned it up and hummed along when you heard a knock on the door. You dried off your hands and walked swiftly to the door with Shay hot on your heels. You oped the door to reveal a young man standing there.

"How can I help you?" You asked.

"Are you (Y/N) Swan?" He replied.

"Yes I am. Who are you if I may ask?"

"I'm Norman Ellison. I was riding with Don Colliers platoon. I'm here to tell you that Boyd has pass-" He kept talking but you didn't listen. Boyd... was dead? It couldn't be. "I'm so sorry Mrs. Swan." He finished. You looked at him with heartbreak in you eyes and whispered,

"When?"

"Two weeks ago." He said and swallowed hard. He looked like he was about to cry too. You felt a tear cascade down your face.

"And Grady? Trini? Don?" You asked and sniffed. He just shook his head and you put a hand over your mouth and stifled a sob. You would not cry in front of Norman.

"Was it fast?" You choked out. He nodded and you felt little relief. Then Norman reached into his pocked and pulled out dogtags, Boyd's dogtags. You slowly reached out and took them from his hands.

"He was a good man (Y/N)." Norman said quietly. You nodded and felt tears streaming down your face. You looked up to Norman and said,

"Thank you Norman." He nodded and handed you two papers. One was addressed to you and the other one had a phone number on it.

"Call me if you need to talk (Y/N)." I nodded gratefully and have him a hug.

"Again thank you." He nodded and turned to leave. You numbly walked back into your house and closed the door. You leaned your back against the door and slid down. You sat and brought you knees to you chest. It's couldn't be. He couldn't be....gone. You thought and tried to hold in the tears, but they got the best of you. Finally, you just let it all out. Your body shook from sobbing and tears fell freely down your face. The man you loved, that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, was gone. Just like that. You held the dogtags against your chest and screamed. You cried even harder when you felt Shay's head rest in your lap. It was like she knew what happened too. You buried your face in her neck and sobbed.

Finally, when you had calmed down somewhat, you looked at the envelope addressed to you. It was in Boyd's handwriting. You slowly opened it and you felt numb. You pulled out a letter and read it aloud.

"Dear (Y/N),

If you are reading this, I have died." You sobbed and continued. "I'm sorry that I can't be there for you anymore. I want you to keep going. I know your going to shutdown like you did when you mother died, but this time, I won't be there to guide you back from the darkness. Babe, I want you to go on living your life, find someone new, love again. You deserve to be the happiest woman in the world and I can't give that to you anymore, but someone else can. I love you so much, I want you to know that, and that to me, you were my everything, whenever I woke up and was sad, I thought of you. I love you but now that I'm gone, you need to find love somewhere else because I can't give you the love that you need anymore. I can't tell you how much I love you (Y/N) and how much I want you to be happy. Live your life (Y/N). Again, I love you with everything I have.

Boyd"
You finished. You folded the letter and set it down beside you. You knew that you would never find anyone like Boyd. Never. He was one of a kind. You took a deep breath, wiped your face and stood up. As much as you didn't want to, you would go on living, because that was Boyd's last wishes and you were going to honour them until you died.

Okay so idk of that was any good but yeah. So I hoped you liked it and this will be the last Boyd one for a while lol
