Vincenzo's POV
I walked downstairs and went to my cousin Nicholas. He is nineteen and my best friend.
"Nick could take care of the children for a little bit longer. I need Tyler with me." He nodded and walked away. "Tyler, I need you to stay with the caregivers. I will come to get one of them and your job will be to permit those I haven't to talk to the ones I had. Can you do it?"
"Yes, boss."
"Great, now come with me. ... Listen. I will talk to you one by one, and then you will go to take care of the children and cook dinner. Madam Marry, you would be the last one. Now Catherine, come with me."
When we sat down in the office I went straight to the point.
"Are you aware of the girl chained to the wall in the basement?"
"No."
"Let's get one thing straight. I hate liars. I can tell when someone lies and when they tell the truth. I am this little from calling the police and having you all rot in the prison. I decided that I would put there only the person who is to blame. But I won't have a problem blaming more people than it's needed. So tell me, dear, were you aware of the girl?"
"Yes."
"Did you help to abuse her?"
"Yes. But I really didn't want to. I was nice to her, but behind my back, she told so hateful and hurtful things about me, that I wanted to feel how much it hurts. Once I tried to give her a chance again, but she just damaged my room and wrote really bad notes on the wall."
"Did you confront her about it? Did she tell you she was the one who did it?"
"Yes. She told me she did it."
"Were you alone with her?"
"No."
"Did she tell you the reason behind it?"
"No. What are you trying to say?"
"Was there Madam Marry with you?"
"Yes."
"Did you know that Mary hates Anna?"
"No, I didn't"
"Yeah, it's true. If Anna didn't exist she would be married to Anna's dad. Maybe Anna was afraid to tell you the truth because it would mean beatings. But it's just my opinion. Maybe it could be quite opposite. Anna didn't tell me much, she was afraid a lot. So did you intentionally hurt her?"
"Yes. I am so sorry."
"What did you do?"
"I pushed her around, kicked her, slapped her, let her clean all house without the help and I ... I am so sorry, I thought she is bitch. We didn't allow her to have food from time to time. I am so sorry."
"That would be all. You can go to the kids."
I've talked to the other two and I was almost the same. Only with a difference, that Rose didn't know about the basement and had never hurt her. She just didn't do anything about it. Now it was time for Marry to come. She tried to run away, but Tyler caught her.
"Marry. Why do you have in the basement a girl chained to the wall."
"It's a punishment."
"What did she do? Do you know it's against law?"
"Yes, and she was being slut she ever was."
"That's not nice from you."
"And? What will you do? Give me to the police? At least I gave her two years of instant torture. How much I will miss her small little voice pleading to stop only for me to tell her I didn't give her permission to talk. Those two years will always stay with her. She felt the same pain I felt when she was born."
"Do you want me to tell you what I will do? I will chain you in my dungeon and come to visit you again and again and again only to torture you. And then I will fetch you up so we could continue. You don't know who I am and who you messed with when you touched her."
I let Tyler take her to my car and went to see everyone else. After they walked up to me I said: "So, I decided that the only one who I will turn to the police is Madam Marry. Don't be happy at all. I let you off the hook only because we don't have anyone to take your place. From now on Rose will be the director. And let me tell you. I have you on my bad list. When I come and see one of those kids with a bruise, I will let you rot in prison. I can visit you anytime, it could be after a month, two years or a decade. And I want to see the basement changed into a playroom. Do you know where the keys to the chains are?"
"Marry had it in her office. I will come with you."
"And Rose. I suggest you let someone adopt her or foster her soon. It's traumatic for her here. It would help her mental health."
When Catherine gave me the keys I told her to stay downstairs. I walked up to Anna and said: "Hi, sweetheart. I am here again and I have the keys."
"Enzo, you didn't forget." She shouted. Enzo? Have I got a nickname?
"Ok, baby. Let's clear out one thing. You can call me Enzo as long as you don't say it in front of anyone else. Do we have a deal?"
"It depends. Can I tell you Enzo in front of your family? I am sure that if we meet again you wouldn't be alone. Why have permi- ahm I don't know the word, whatever. Why have the word to call you that if I won't have an opportunity to?" I thought about it. I would like to say no, but her sad eyes didn't let me.
"Fine, baby. But only in front of family. And it's permission. Now listen to me. I have taken care of everything, so now it's safe here. I will carry you downstairs and you will eat your dinner and take a bath. Then you will go to sleep. When you wake up, you will pack all your things and wait."
"Wait for what Enzo?" she asked.
"Wait for a surprise. Can you do these things?"
"Yes." I scooped her up and she weighed less than a feather.
"Enzo?" she drew my attention to her. "Hmm?"
"Will I ever see you again?"
"If everything goes like planned we will see each other before you even start to miss me."
"Really?" she shouted happily and started to bounce in my arms. If I would know this little sentence is enough to bring her happiness I would tell her earlier.
"Yes. Now stop jumping or I will drop you." I said strictly.
"Sorry." She replied but her smile never vanished from her face.
