Not exactly a storybook childhood

  For all of the joythaht walt disney speard around the world,you might assume he had a happy, carefree childhood . In fact, walt's early years were often a struggle.

  He was born Walter Elias Disney on december 5,1901, in chicago,Illinois. His parents,Elias and Flora, were hard workers and active churchgoers. They ran a strict household where a strong work etchic was more important than having fun.

  Elias worked as a builder at the time,which was a tough way to living. The family often had  trouble making ends neet. Flora was forced to do construction work with her husband because they needed money so badly.

  By the time walt, a blond, delicate-featured child, was born, the Disneys already had three other mouth to feed: Herbert,Raymond, and Roy. Two years after walt was born, a baby girl named Ruth came along. In search for better jobs the Disney family moved every few years when walt was a kid. Elias took them from the city to the country, and then to a different city years later.

  Walt's stern father, Elias, didn't display a lot of emotion except for anger. He had a bad temper, and lots of things set him off. He didn't approve of drinking,dacing, or sillness. Elias cared for his family, but it wasn't easy being his son.
