"Let's go!" Shoyo exclaims excitedly as he runs past you in his sportswear. Today is your first day at Karasuno high school and he can't wait to finally join the volleyball club. Understandable, since after all, he can finally play in a real club. In middle school he has been the only club member for the first two years. It was only last year, when three first graders joined him, but there still weren't enough members to take part in an official tournament. And when eventually two friends from the basketball and the football club agreed to step in for a game, they lost miserably.
With a sigh you decide to follow your childhood friend. Actually, you always hang out together anyway. You can hardly count how many balls you've already tossed him when no one else wanted to. Joining a club yourself is out of the question for you, so why not hang out at the volleyball club with him.
You hardly catch up with him, but when you finally do, he suddenly brakes abruptly. With a soft bang you run into him and fall back on your butt. "Hey, what was that about?" You complain, but Shoyou only has eyes for something that lies ahead of him. Or rather someone. Kageyama Tobio, the player he had lost to in middle school and declared him his rival at the time, is already in the hall practicing his serve. „What are you doing here?", Shoyo suddenly calls out for him, pointing his finger at his so-called rival. This causes the black-haired boy to freeze in the middle of movement. Surprised, he turns in your direction while the falling ball hits him on the back of his head. You snort softly at the sight, completely forgetting that you are still sitting on the floor like an idiot yourself.
"You're the one from last year," murmurs Kageyama in an emotionless voice, pericing Shoyo with his dark blue eyes. "And your weird shadow. No idea what your names are." 'How rude', you think as you slowly straighten yourself up and smooth the skirt of your uniform. Somehow start to wonder why the black-haired boy is always glaring so much. Or maybe it's just his usual face. Actually, when you think about it, you've never seen any other expression on his face.
„My name is Hinata Shoyo and this is my best friend Haruno Asuna", the red-haired boy now introduces you two. "I remember you. You played really badly," Kageyama answers dryly, with his as it seems like, usual calm manner. "Don't make fun of me," Shoyo exclaims with clenched fists. „Last time I lost, but next time I'll win. Or at least that's what I planned to do, so what the hell are you doing here in Karasuno?" True, if the two are in the same team, Shoyo can't beat him in a official match. Well, but maybe it's not bad to have a rival on the same team, isn't it?
"There are better schools in this prefecture, why didn't you go there?" - "I failed the entrance test forbest school in this prefecture," the black haired boy admits contritely. "Failed? Even though you're the king of the field?" Shoyo now asks confused.
That's right, you also heard about his nickname in middle school. He was supposed to be a really good setter and has played for the best middle school team in the prefecture.
Anyhow, Shoyo's last question finally brings an emotion to Kageyama's face, even if its not the one you would have expected: the player suddenly seems to be angry. "Do not call me that!", he growls, while the expression on his face turns even darker than usual.
Suddenly you are distacted by voices coming from outside the gym. The two boys shut up as well, waiting for their upperclassmen to enter the gym.
"Who would have thought that the setter from Kitagawa Daiichi would come to us, he is probably totally sassy." - "Now stop it. And stop threatening everything and everyone" - "As I'd do something like that."
"Hello", greets Kageyama behind you, as the three guys in sportswear enter the gym. And while you let your eyes wander over the three, they stick to one of them.
