Anastasia knocked on her boyfriend's door with her suitcase ready in hand. Everything else she owned had already been sent to Seattle, Washington a week ago. This was the last stop before the airport. Angel's flat mate had answered the door looking confused.
"Is Angel ready?" She asked Coco.
"What do you mean?" He asked quietly. "Angel's gone."
"Where? We need to get to the airport." She said getting annoyed at Angel for always running off suddenly.
"He moved out yesterday." Coco said bluntly. "He's gone."
The door closed in her face as she stood stunned, what did Coco mean. She hammered her fist on the door painfully but Coco just yelled at her to go away. The honk of the taxi arriving behind her reminded her she was already running late. With no other choice and the hope Angel was already at the airport she got in the back of the taxi and left.
She called his number while she rode to the airport but started to feel the reality sink in when she heard the voice message: This number is not in service. It was the same number he had used since he got a cellphone three years ago. Ana started to feel sick at the thought of being abandoned yet again.
Her father, Drago, had dropped Ana off at his mother's house in Santo Padre before disappearing. She hadn't heard from her since that night six years ago. Grammy didn't talk about him much and when she did it wasn't anything nice. Drago had raised his daughter from the moment she was born and her mom took off right up until he did the same thing. Angel knew her history, he knew the fear of abandonment she had so she couldn't understand why he was doing this.
She felt the urge to scratch at the newly healed tattoo that covered her back. She had always wanted to get a tattoo so Angel had paid for it as her birthday present. Ana had proudly paraded the angel wings around, the design chosen by her Angel. Now it burnt a hole in her back, the feeling of her naivety bared for everyone to see. She constantly had to remind herself no one in Seattle knew her or Angel so it was just another tattoo.
She had sat next to his empty seat on the plane and avoided looking at it the entire flight. She thought about missing the flight and staying but Coco had said he moved out. She had no way of finding him without his phone and she had nowhere to stay since Grammy died and the house was sold. Everything was riding on their plans in Seattle.
After landing and collecting her suitcase, Ana caught a taxi to the apartment she had brought with what she got for Grammy's house. It's wasn't a great deal since house prices in Santo Padre were cheap compared to Seattle. By the time she had paid off the left over mortgage, Ana could only afford a studio apartment out of the city.
Ana unlocked the door to her knew home and saw her bed and few moving boxes were all that filled the space. It was only when she closed the door that she let her heart shatter. He really had abandoned her. I'll never leave you. His words were lies that had poisoned her with hope but he left just like everyone else she had loved.
