George had to quickly think of something to tell his mom. He couldn't just say he was going to meet one of Nicks online friends who he just barely met over text.

"Hey mom?" He asked

"Yeah?" She looked up at him on the stairs.

"Can I go to the park for a bit?" He was hesitant to ask, afraid she'd say no.

It was silent for a moment, he could hear his parents talking about it. "Uh- Sure." She finally spoke.

"Really? Thank you!" George smiled.

He checked himself in the mirror, then ran down the stairs and through the front door.

Not knowing where anything was, he went to the "Map" app on his phone, and typed in "Happy Park". He followed the blue line until he was at a huge park. There was loads of empty grass space, and benches everywhere. There were basketball ball hoops and playgrounds more near the center of the park, with a sidewalk along the outside. Not far from the park was a huge beach, with plenty of shops all around. He exited the Map app and clicked on Messages.

george- hey. i'm here. where r u?

clay- i'm omw rn:)

george- okay i'm by the happy park sign!

George turned off his phone and slipped it in the front pocket of his pants. He looked around the park, then continued to make his way towards one of the benches.

He sat alone for a few minutes. "Ugh where is he" He mumbled to himself.

"Right here" Clay spoke softly

George turned around and connected eyes with someone he's never seen before. He was a tall man, with dark evergreen eyes. His hair was dirty blond, golden almost... And he had beautiful freckles splattered across his face. He chuckled and put his hand out, with his palm up.

George sat in silence, then put his hand on top of Clays. Clay pulled him up off the bench, until they were both on their feet.

"Um, hello there. Are you-" George stuttered

"Clay? Yea! Nice to meet you, George"

"You too. Um how did you know it was me?" George questioned

"Nick. He wanted us to meet up so bad. He sent me pictures and videos of you two together. I already knew what you looked like. Anyway, you have nice eyes" He looked into George's eyes and smiled

George couldn't help but get all tingly inside. He didn't know why he felt like this. He just met the dude. It wasn't anything beyond a friendship feeling though. George knew he didn't like guys that way. He just appreciated the compliment, that was all.

"Thanks." He smiled

"Yeah, no problem" Clay responded

"You do too" George blurted out.

"Haha, thanks"

George smiled into Clays eyes, admiring the emerald green. "I've never met someone with green eyes"

"You haven't?" He rose his eyebrows in curiosity

"Nick was my only friend" He said, "His eyes aren't green."

"Well now you have two." Clay smiled and connected eyes with George once again

"Yeah, I guess I do." George looked down at his feet

There was a moment of silence, before Clay put his palm out, just like he did a few minutes ago. Without thinking George put his hand on top of Clays once again. He began waking as he lead George to the beach. "How long can you stay?"

"Not too long. I need to be back by 5." George replied

Clay glanced at the time on his phone. "4:08" it read. "We've got time."

He pulled George through the soft sand that was slowly sneaking its way into their shoes. George rarely got to go to the beach.

"What are we doing here?" George asked

"We can watch the sunset." Clay responded

The boys continued walking, until they got closer to the ocean, but not close enough for the water to come on the shore and reach them.

Clay laid down his hoodie in the sand, and allowed himself and George to sit on top of it.

"Do you do this often?" George questioned him

"What? Watch the sunset?"

"No, bring people here." He said

"Oh. No, why?" Clay asked

"Why me?" George didn't understand why Clay found him so special. In Texas, hardly anyone knew who he was.

"Nick never stopped talking about you. When I first texted him, he mentioned you."

"He did?" He asked

"Yeah. The dude was nonstop bringing you up. So, naturally, I wanted to get to know you. And this is my way of doing so."

"Is it nice here?" George said, looking towards the dark orange and pink clouds surrounding the dimming sun

"Kinda. The weather gets really warm in the summer."

"I can already tell." George giggled.

"Hey, look! The sun is setting." Clay spoke, unintentionally cutting off the conversation

"Yeah it is!" George replied

The boys admired the sun slowly lowering itself through the orange sky. Continuing further down until it went past the ocean limit, and dimmed the sky greatly.

"Hey well, I better get going. This was fun though. Thanks" George said.

"Oh, yeah. No problem! Let's do this again?" Clay asked

"Totally." George smiled at Clay one more time, before standing up and pulling out his phone to find his way home.

"See you later!" Clay shouted.

George turned around and waved goodbye. And with a bright smile, he turned his back and finally made his way home.
