Clary gets ready for the meeting with Simon, Isabelle, and Alec. She put on a loose T-shirt and jeans. Nervously, she pulled out her phone, just trying to kill time. She read through her text conversation with her mom.

Clary: Hey, mom. Can we talk today in person? Seven tonight at my house?

Jocelyn: Sure. Is there something wrong?

Clary: No. I just want to talk to you about something.

Jocelyn: Okay then. See you then.

Nothing was wrong, it was the honest truth. Her mother would just freak. She wasn't going to be upset; or was she? Now, there was no telling what was going to happen. At that thought, she feels a stab of fear go through her. She let a flustered breath out and ran her hands through her hair.

"Are you okay?" Jace asked as he came up behind her. Clary nodded and looked away.

"Just nervous," she muttered. Soon, the time came for the meeting with her best friends. Jace walked up to the greenhouse with her in the New York Institute. Together, hand in hand, they waited for them. Five minutes later, Alec, Simon, and Isabelle showed up. Simon was dressed in his usual jeans and text T-shirts, and this time it read, Come to the nerd side. We have pi. Alec was in some red jeans that Magnus had gotten for him and a white T-shirt under a black sweater. Isabelle was in her usual outfit: black boots, a black short skirt, and a gray shirt.

"Hey. What's up?" Alec asked as they walked in. They stood in front of them. He looked at Jace questioningly. Clary shifted her gaze from Jace to Simon. He was looking at her nervously, as if waiting to hear that someone had died. Clary fidgeted with her feet and suddenly became very interested with her shoes. She saw Simon take a step toward her and she lifted her head up slightly.

"We have an announcement," Jace said with a smile. He nudged Clary, trying to get her to talk. She looked up and saw Simon, and it was like her mouth was glued together.

"Um... well..." she stammered, trying to stall. The words came out shaky. She felt the mood change and everyone was looking at her. Her knees locked up and her legs turned to jelly. "Uh... I-"

"Clary," said Simon, his voice low in desperation, "just tell us." That one sentence made her walls crack.

"I'm having a baby."

Jaws dropped through the ground.

"You're kidding," Isabelle said slowly. Then, her lips transformed into a large grin and she hugged Clary. Clary was taken aback. Isabelle had never been the lovey-dovey type, or the one to show affection so easily and quickly. Despite it all, Clary wrapped her arms around the other girl and hugged her close.

"Thanks, Iz. It means a lot," Clary said quietly, and to her surprise, found tears in her eyes. She blinked them away, slightly embarrassed. After a moment, Isabelle let her go and Clary saw water in her eyes. Clary swallowed and looked away. Alec came up and gave her an awkward pat on the back.

"Congrats, Clary," he says stiffly. Clary managed a smile and a small "thank you". Then came Simon.

He enveloped her in his strong arms, so familiar. Clary melted into them, and started to tremble. "It's okay," he said warmly, yet awkwardly. They stood like that for a while until Jace gently took Clary's shoulders and pulled her close to his chest.

"Thanks guys. We have to go somewhere else. We'll meet up again soon." Jace steered her out of the greenhouse. They went to Taki's and ate slowly. They were almost completely silent. They were both nervous for the final verdict from Jocelyn.

They made their way back to their house, and they waited anxiously. The doorbell rang and Jace sprang up gracefully. Clary saw him take a visible breath before he opened the door. And there stood Luke and Jocelyn. They were both in gear. Jocelyn took a step inside, and surveyed the area.

"Nice, erm, house," she said nervously as she took off her boots. Luke did the same. Clary felt fear like never before shooting through her, and she swallowed.

"Do you want a tour?" She led them around the house, taking more time than needed.

"Clary, can you tell us the real reason you've called us here?" her mother asked impatiently. Clary gulped and nodded. She sat at the table.

"Do you want anything to drink?"

"No, we're okay," Luke said for the both of them. Clary took a deep breath and nodded. Jace gripped her shaking hand under the table.

"We have some exciting news for you. Well, we're excited," Jace says, trying to lighten the fog that had settled over the foursome. Luke managed a weak laugh.

Let's get this over with, Clary thinks. "Um, this might come as a bit of a shock," she begins slowly, "but we're having a baby."

If her mother had been holding something, she would've dropped it. She seemed to be in total shock. Almost as if she was about to fall into a coma.

"Wow, Clary. That's great." Luke gave her a genuine smile and patted her back, warm and comfortable, familiar and loving. She turned her gaze to her mother.

"This is a huge shock... but I'm happy for you," she said slowly. Clary smiled wide and hugged her mother. Jocelyn, taken by surprise, hugged her daughter back. "I love you, Clary."

"I love you too, Mom," she said tearfully. And they were all happy.
