(TW: Cursing, implied and described blood)
It was a normal day, as per usual she would get up late , eat her breakfast at an alarming and rate run down the road to school only to block out the entire day from her memory.
She wasn't the type to pay attention in school but what can you expect from "a teenager like her?".
She was under the constant belief and frankly constant dread that that is what everyone thought of her, and could you blame her? It's not like that fear so wild and fanciful that it would cause her trouble? Or at least that's what she told herself every night so she could shut her eyes long enough to be dragged into a deep sleep.
Melanie tried to rub her eyes free of the sleep that blurred her vision as she scrambled to answer the calls from her mother.
Her mind was muddled after the late night existential dread, she had never been a fan of the night time but this was testing her patience.
"Mel get up!" Her mom was calling repeatedly as she grabbed her keys and coat. "I need to go to work and if you miss the bus again you will miss first period!" This call filled Melanie with irritation, she hated first period, and rightly so! Her French teacher had it out for her, she was a scheming witch.
"Fuck..." Melanie groaned quietly, her throat was horse and her eyes burning as she forced them to stay open. "I'm up mom!"
She called down the stairs while she made her way to the bathroom. As she turned on the faucet she heard her mother's car pull out of the driveway.
Now it was time for the rush, Melanie brushed her teeth got dressed and did her hair in the span of about 10 minutes, all the while she was thinking about the assignments she had procrastinated doing.
"I'm not really in the mood for breakfast" she thought passing through the kitchen and grabbing her coat and backpack.
Just like that she was again off to school, it had recently become the only place in which she could sleep, of course it wasn't her fault, she couldn't control it.
No matter how much Melanie tried to push the thoughts away they would always return.
By the time she had reached school students were already going to their classes, Melanie quickly ran towards her friends a smile on her face until she saw it. It was smiling like it always does and just like the last times a light flashed.
It was so bright, and so cold. It burned like how the sun burns when your trying to take a photo on the beach as a kid. Her eyes were stinging and watering as the white bled from her vision changing to cloudy spots of red smudged on walls.
She was shaking, she felt like she wasn't in control of her own body apart from the trembling. It was the trembling that made it all the more fun for the thing.
"Mel? You ok?" Beth asked, Melanie's eyes focused on her best friend who stood in front of her, "you weren't at school on Monday and you didn't text me!" The girl questioned grabbing one of Melanie's hands, it was soaked in blood. But just like the others she couldn't see
Her sleeve was a series of damp reddish brown splotches weighing down the grey fabric making it stick to her arms in a damp mess.
Her eyes darted she had to find it, the sooner she did the sooner it would end. Her friends dropped to the floor gently one by one crumpling to the floor pathetically.
Then he heard the noise. It was a sound similar to that of a person walking through a puddle, their wellie boots crashing into the liquid splashing it everywhere. Though this innocent, almost relaxing noise was interrupted every time as it, or perhaps more accurately she would crawl through.
She is me and I was her. She is the thoughts that keep me up at night, the pains I have endured. I don't know what happens if can't keep her in my mind , but If the day she does get out comes, the pain will be reciprocated and the blood will be spilt.
