"That was absolutely amazing! I've never seen volleyball played like that before!"

"We lost, Tom. And now we're out of the playoffs."

"Yeah, because fucking Ella tried to be a star and do that jumpy serve thing and ended up hitting it into the net."

I couldn't disagree with that. The whole match had been back and forth between The Howard and Glebelands School. I had been put as starting setter and nine hitter (I hit when the other setter did a back-set) in our 6-2 set up. That meant that there were two setters but everyone could spike the ball. That's the set up we had back at my old school so I was more than happy with this. It meant I didn't need to do anything different. I could kick ass like always.

Anyways, it was back and forth the entire time. Point us, point them, point us, point them, point us... you get the picture. They ended up winning the first game by three points (22-25), but then we won the second game by two (25-23). Since the third game only goes up to fifteen, we needed to get off to a good start but like both of the others, it was back and forth. We ended up playing to twenty-three points. That's the other team's score because Ella thought that we would be able to catch up if she tried to jump serve and got us ahead. Only a complete idiot would think that when the other team is one point away from winning.

"Don't get too down, though, Kenz," Tom comforted, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and squeezing me against his side. "You played great. There's no doubt about it that you're the star of this team."

"You're just saying that because you're my boyfriend," I blushed.

"I would tell you if you sucked, trust me. Remember that Physics project that you told me to check?"

"I forgot about that... asshole!"

I hit Tom's chest. Well, I tried to. His hold on my shoulders was kind of preventing me from moving my arms so my hit was the equivalent to that of a T-Rex and it's sad little arms.

"I think that's the only thing I'm better at than you so don't be too mean about it."

"Not true. You're a way better actor than me."

"I don't know... that episode of Drake & Josh was pretty impressive, Lucy."

"I just had to argue a little and fight Drake Bell. Nothing out of the ordinary for me."

"So do you fight Drake Bell on a daily basis or something? Should I be worried?" Tom joked.

I was about to reply but got cut off by a car horn. Tom and I both looked up to see his brother, Chris, in a car in the parking lot of the school. I knew Chris from the few times that he had to pick Tom up at the beginning of the year, before Tom got his driver's licence.

"What the bloody hell is he doing here..." Tom muttered then added louder, "What do you want?"

"Mum wants to know if you and McKenzie are joining us for dinner. I was in the area so I figured I would just stop by."

"Your mum wants me for dinner?" I asked.

Tom and I had been dating for only a few months now, but I still hadn't met his family aside from Chris. I knew that he had two other brothers and that his parents were still happily married unlike most parents I knew. Other than that, I couldn't tell you one thing about his family.

"Yeah, she figures it's time to meet the girl she's heard so much about."

"But.. But I'm all sweaty and disgusting and -"

"If you're making up excuses to avoid us," Chris joked, "she knows you had a volleyball game and won't mind a bit."

"Don't you carry perfume in your bag?"
