It's been three days since Sinopa and I have talked. I'm going to have to leave soon.
Beacon sits next to me, his hands folded neatly on his lap. "You promise to keep the kingdom safe," I murmur. He nods. "I want a verbal answer." "Yes ma'am." "Don't call me ma'am." He nods so fast I think his head will fall off.
"So, where's your sister been? Did she go back to her kingdom?" I ask, glancing over at him. "Dunno, she hasn't talked to me in a while. I don't know what happened. Did one of us do something wrong?" "I don't think so, but if one of us did, it would probably be you."
Beacon shifts in his chair. "Why did you ask me to keep your kingdom safe while you're gone? Why not..." He ponders for a moment. "Why not a guard or knight?" "I don't trust them. Also, you're a close friend of mine," I reply flatly. "Oh." He sighs. "When are you leaving, anyway?" "I can go whenever I want," I say as I pick at my short fingernails. "I think they want me to go in at least a week."
