A half an hour passed and still no word on how Elaine was. I could sense that she was in pain. The door swung open and Connor came in with family. Desmond, Ezio, Edward, Leonardo, Hawke, Haytham, and Kanėtön walked in behind him.
"Sorry we took so long, Bigby." Connor apoligized.
"It's fine, you guys came pretty quick actually." I told him.
"We all are worried about Elaine." Leonardo said.
"She's a strong girl, she'll be ok!" Ezio put his arm around Leonardo.
"The strongest." Desmond added.
"You've had a rough night, Bigby. Why don't you rest for awhile?" Haytham offered.
"No, I want to be there when she comes out of labor." I answered.
"Your a good man, Bigby." Hawke complimented.
"Have you heard any news about Hawke?" Connor asked.
"No, I haven't." Tears swelled in my eyes. "I've only heard her scream." My breaths staggered.
"My poor little raven..." Edward breathed.
Edward always called Elaine raven. He called her that because she could morph into a raven. And she was always fascinated with ravens.
We all sat back down and waited. Leonardo snuggled up against Ezio. Kanėtön sat in the middle of Connor and Hawke. Edward and Haytham sat on either side of me. Desmond sat next to Haytham. We sat in silence except for a small banter once in awhile.
After awhile a man came through the door to the medical station. He had blood on his coat. We all gasped when he came near us.
"Bigby Wolf?" He called out.
I started to get up but Haytham put something in my hand. I looked to find a small dagger.
"Just in case something happens." He whispered.
"Don't be so judgmental, father!" Connor angrily whispered.
"Take it just in case!" He whispered.
"Mr. Wolf?" He called again.
"I'm here." I stated, while sliding the dagger in my pocket. Haytham gave me a thumbs up.
"The doctor just wants you in there to talk." He said, his tone sad.
"Is Elaine ok?!" Edward busted out.
"She's alive, don't worry." The man said. "Now if you'll come with me." He led me through a door, and down a hallway.
"How did the birth go?" I asked.
"The doctor will tell you everything." He said coldly.
I huffed and continued following him. He lead me to a room and shut the door behind me. Elaine was laying in a hospital bed with tubes connected to her. I went up next to her and took her hand without tubes.
The doctor walked in through the door. He seemed a lot more friendlier then the last guy.
"Please, sit down, I have some unsettling news." He said grimly.
"Is my wife ok?" I asked firmly.
"She's alive, but far from ok." His voice was low.
I looked at her. She had a tube in her mouth. Bandages wrapped around her belly. Tubes connected to her wrists and chest. She was breathing slowly.
"Will she recover?" I asked quietly, my voice cracked.
"It will be awhile, but she'll have a long, hard recovery. But in time, she'll be perfectly fine." He reassured me.
"What's the unsettling news?" I asked.
"You and Elaine had twins." He said.
"That's great, how's that bad news?!" I said cheerfully.
"Only one of them lived." He said grimly.
I gasped. My heart sank. Tears ran down my face, my eyes went big.
"God, oh god, no!" I breathed.
"I'm sorry, the child was already dead when it came out." He sighed from sadness.
"No, no, no, no." I cried.
"The girl that survived is healthy and breathing." He started. "Do you want to see her?" He asked.
I wished more then nothing to see at least one of my children. I nodded and wiped my tears away.
"I'll bring her in, just wait in here." He walked out of the room.
I stood up and kissed Elaine on her cheek. I sat down and took her hand again. I gasped when I felt light pressure on my hand. She squeezed my hand as much as she could. Her eyes opened slowly.
The nurse saw her and came in the room. She connected a breathing tube to her nose. Then took the tube out of her mouth. She walked out of the room and ran out of the room.
"Bigby?" She asked weakly, her voice faint.
"I'm here Elaine." I said calmly.
"How are our children?" She asked faintly.
"The doctor is bringing her in." I said trying to sound ok.
"Her? There's two of them. Is he bringing her in next?" She asked. I swallowed hard.
"Something happened." I said grimly.
"What?" She asked nervously, her voice still weak.
"One of them didn't make it." I said with sorrow.
She stared at me. Tears ran down my face. She gasped weakly and closed her eyes. Tears swelled from her eyes. It broke my heart to see her like this.
"Your not kidding, are you?" She asked. "No, god..." Her voice trailed off.
The doctor walked in and smiled. He held a small infant in his hands. He set the child in my arms. Elaine sat up slowly to see the child. She winced in pain, I set my hand on her stomach lightly to stop her. I angled the child so both of us could see her.
"She's beautiful." I whispered to Elaine.
"She looks so peaceful." Elaine smiled.
The child quietly cried. She had a fair skin tone like mine. Her nails were like small raven claws, a feature from Elaine. We both looked at each other and grinned.
"What will we call her?" I asked Elaine.
"What about Maya?" She asked.
"That's a beautiful name." I teared up from happiness.
"I'm sorry to intrude but we should do more vitality testing on Elaine." The doctor stated. "We need you out of here, Bigby."
"Wait, her family is here, shouldn't they come see her?" I asked.
"Her family can come see her later, when she's ready to be talking." The doctor glared at the women who switched her breathing tubes.
"Don't worry Bigby, I'll be ok." She reassured me, her voice cracked.
"See you soon, Elaine." I leaned in and kissed her cheek.
She raised her hand and lightly pressed my head and connected her lips to mine. I handed Maya to Elaine. She smiled and looked at the infant. I walked out of the room and down the hall. Everyone rose when I came through the door.
