Makayla Rose: Age 6Makayla's POV
╚═════════════════╝I walked into my classroom full of joy as I admired the Christmas decorations spread across the room.
"Makayla! Over here!" I heard my best friend, Jenna, call out to me while standing with a few other girls from my class. I looked up to my mom, waiting for her to grant me permission to release her hand and go to my friends.
Mom nodded her head. "Go along, sweetheart, I'll be right here if you need me," she said, gently pushing me forward. I dashed off across the room, my red dress with white faux fur swishing alongside me.
"Hi, guys! Merry Christmas!" I exclaimed, completely overjoyed by the wonderful holiday. The girls and I grabbed each other in a group hug while giggling.
I admired Jenna in her pink dress, similar to mine, and sparkly bow. Jenna had always been beautiful in my opinion. Sometimes, I even became jealous of her.
"Alright, boys and girls!" I heard my teacher exclaim to us all, her peppy voice gaining our attention.
"I know you are all excited for our Christmas party this year, so to kick it off we are going to be starting with our holiday talent show!" she said. Every kid in my class began to scream and clap. I mirrored their actions and jumped around with my friends.
"First up is...Makayla Rose! She is going to sing a little song for us, so give it up for Makayla!" She began to clap as well as the parents and their children.
I nervously looked over to my mom who was standing alone, giving me a big smile and two thumbs-up.
I got onto the make-shift stage my class made together, fumbling with the bottom of my dress out of nervousness.
Remember what Mommy told you...close your eyes, breathe in, and give them a show.
"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Everywhere you go. Take a look at the five and ten, it's glistening once again, with candy canes and silver lanes aglow," I began to sing out.
I didn't open my eyes throughout the song. Instead, I imagined I was in a fairytale Christmas wonderland. It was just me and the elves, singing together.
"Sure, it's Christmas once more," I concluded.
I gently opened my eyes as silence took over the room. Everybody had a look of shock painted onto their faces, even the parents! The once silent room grew louder as cheers and claps rang throughout my ears.
Smiling wide, I hopped off the stage and ran into my mother's arms. She spun me around, kissing my face repetitively.
"I'm so proud of you, baby! You did so well!" she exclaimed, holding me close. Many other parents and their children came to congratulate me, telling me I had a beautiful voice, before enjoying the rest of the party.

"Hey, Makayla," Jenna said from across the table I was sat at. I looked up from decorating my sugar cookie, letting her know I was listening. She leaned across the table and crossed her arms.
"You should, like, totally go get us drinks and cookies," she said as the rest of the girls at our table nodded and hummed in agreement.
"Okay!" I exclaimed, instantly jumping out of my seat.
Woah, little dizzy. I think I need to cut down on the sugar like Mommy always tells me to.

Grabbing a few cookies first, I began to make my way back to the table when suddenly a terrible headache hit me, causing me to drop the cookies.
"Are you okay, baby?" my mom asked me. I simply nodded my head, the pain almost unbearable. I didn't want her to scold me about my sugar intake.
"I think I just need to sit down for a little bit," I said, smiling at her.
As I began to walk again another sudden pain came rushing to my ears, but this time it was much worse. I stopped and held my ears, my whimpers not being unheard from my mom.
She rushed over to me in a hurry, concern filled her voice. "Makayla, what's wrong?"
I didn't answer her, my body filled with fatigue and I could no longer keep myself up. Her face was the last thing I saw before darkness. The feeling of my head smacking the ground would have made me cry if it weren't for the instant unconsciousness that overtook my body seconds later.
"Makayla! Somebody call 9-1-1!"

A/N: Hiii, welcome to the first chapter of my first book on here :) I'm kinda nervous tbh...I hope I don't mess this up somehow. Writing stuff like this can be difficult and you have to make sure you do a lot of research so you don't give false information. AnYwaYs, I hope you enjoyed this and look forward to more chapters, I'll try to update this more often than my stories on Instagram.
I decided to write this book first instead of Voice to My Abyss even though there were a couple more votes for that one because I have a lot of ideas for this one:)
Thank you for reading!
