Kim Taehyung: Age 17Taehyung's POV
╚═════════════════╝Sat at the big, long table with a crystal chandelier hung above, I carelessly sipped champagne as well as those around me.
My parents were having one of their infamous dinner parties tonight. Of course, I had to be dragged along while my younger sister had the freedom to stay in her room.
The room was filled with laughter, yet not a single smile snuck its way onto my face. I simply sat there, emotionless, ignoring my parents and their over-joyous business partners.
That was until I heard the mention of my name.
Looking up from my plate, I saw many eyes on me. My own eyes moved back and forth between my parents, trying to figure out what the situation at hand was.
"Taehyung, dear, Mr. Lee asked what your plans are once you run the family business," my mother said, her makeup-caked face holding a tight smile.
I choked on my champagne at her statement, the woman beside me quickly handing me a handkerchief and asking if I was okay. I silently nodded and thanked her before returning my attention back to my parents who looked as if they could burst at any moment.
"What do you mean, Mother? I'm only 17, don't you think it's a little early to be discussing this?" I tried my best for the subject to be changed.
Everyone suddenly laughed whole-heartily, causing my eyebrows to lower in confusion.
"Oh, don't be silly! Once you graduate high school your father will be able to step down and provide you with the position as CEO of the company," my mother explained, a boastful smile replaced the once fake one.
My blood began to boil at her statement. Who were they to decide my future? My purpose in life? Decide my decisions?
"Did you ever think to consider that --maybe-- I didn't want to take over the family business?" I bit back, not caring at the moment that we had guests present.
My parents' eyes turned into devilish glares filled with fury.
"What are you talking about? This is our family business, it's your responsibility to take over, Taehyung," my mother spat back, my father nodding his head in agreement. Disappointment shone on their faces brighter than the moon during the darkest hours of the night.
"It's not what I want! Shouldn't this be about what I want?!" I yelled, slamming my hand on the table and rising from my seat.
My father stood up, his face was red with anger.
"Sit down, boy! Not everything is you, Kim Taehyung. I've taught you it's not always about what we want, but what we're supposed to do!" Father yelled.
"That's not for you to decide! I just want to be my own person for a change! A chance to finally be independent! Is that so hard for you to understand?" I choked out before obeying my father's command and sat down.
Father scoffed, gently shaking his head and rubbing his chin.
"Fine, you want to be independent? Then you'll be damn independent."
My mother gently gasped, gently touching his arm. "Minjoon, don't do anything irrational," she said, but Father simply shook her off of him, completely ignoring her words.
"Starting your senior year you will be studying in France, far away from here," he began.
"We have a house there we will let you stay in out of the kindness of our hearts."
'Out of the kindness of our hearts' my ass, you just don't want people seeing your son living in a property of the lower class.
My father crossed his arms, a light smirk seen to be taken place on his face.
"However, you will find your own source of income, you will find your own way to school, and you will not come back here until you are ready to take the position of CEO. Do you understand?"
I took a deep breath before nodding my head.
"Yes, sir," I quietly replied.
"Well, then, let's continue our dinner," he said, taking a seat and acting as if nothing happened.
The room was quiet, the only sound to be heard was the soft melody of Debussy playing in the background.
What had I just gotten myself into?

A/N: Hello everyone :) I hope you enjoyed this chapter, I was listening to dark academia music while writing this to try and get a vibe for it haha
Fun Fact: Taehyung is Fluent in Korean, English, and French, but he also knows a great amount of Chinese and Japanese. His parents made him constantly study English and French as a child since those are important languages to know for business. He learned Chinese and Japanese through schooling outside of his home, and, obviously, he knows Korean since he's lived in Korea his whole life (well, until now).
Thank you for reading:)
