Chapter 14: What Happened To Us?

I was slowly waking up when I heard some weird sounding music playing in the room I was sleeping in. I open my eyes then sit up to see Elliot was playing something. "What the hell?" I asked and Elliot looks up at me. "Sorry, did I wake you?" He asked me. "If that music is you then I say yes." I responded and he chuckles. 

"Sorry." He said and I get up to see that he had that handheld game. "So you did take it." I said and he gives me a mischievous grin. "Hey, that asshole isn't using it." He said and I chuckled. "Well, I'm glad you're finally getting to play a game at least." I said. "No kidding. And a hard one at that. Took me awhile to figure it out but...I think I got the gist of it." He said as I run my hand on the back of my neck and sit next to him and he keeps mashing the buttons.

"Have you gotten any rest?" I asked him. "Alittle but...I really couldn't sleep. Thats why I'm playing this...keep my mind occupied." He said. "Come a long way from just pretending playing a video game and Riley describing it." I said and Elliot chuckles. "Yeah." He said then he sets the handheld game down and sighs.

"What is it?" I asked him and he slightly shakes his head. "What happened to us, (y/n)?" He asked me. "I broke your trust, that's what happened." I said. "And I did the dickhead move of being an asshole to you." He added. "You said it, not me." I tell him and he snorts a bit at this. “What did I say about rubbing it in” he teases. I rolled my eyes and playfully shoved him. “Well you’re not the only one who made a dickhead move.” I said.

“Yeah, we’re both idiots.” he agrees and I nod. “If Riley were here, she would say the same thing and smack both our heads.” I said and Elliot chuckles then we sit there in silence.

“What does it mean for us?” He asked. “I’m not sure, Elliot. I know things will change now that we made amends...but for us...I’m not so sure where life will lead us.” I tell him. Then Elliot gently grasps my hand in his, caressing my knuckles with his thumb. “We’ll take it slow then, if that’s what you want?” said Elliot and I nodded. "I'd like that." I tell him.

"So we agree, we start over?" He asked. "Yeah. Clean slate." I said and Elliot nods then puts the game away then sits up straight and holds his hand out to me. "Hi, I'm Elliot." He said and I snorted but go along with it and shake his hand. "Hello, I'm (y/n). Nice to meet ya." I said and we shake hands as we laugh.

"Okay, well I'm gonna go check on the others. You need rest." I tell him and Elliot looks up at me for a moment then nods. "Okay." He said and he starts to lay down and I smile at him before I head out.

I walk out from the stage and see Dina sitting in one of the theater seats, her head buried in her hands. "Hey. You okay?" I asked her as I walk up to her. She looks up at me and she smirks but the smile doesn't hit her eyes.

"What is it?" I asked her. Dina stares at me for a moment before she let's out a sigh. "I took those tests you guys found..." she said. "And?" I asked as I go sit next to her. "Both were positive." She said and my eyes widen in surprise. "Have you told the others?" I asked her.

"Yeah. Joel and Jesse are already making a plan to go back to Jackson." She said and I gasp at this. "Really?" I asked and she nods. "Yeah." Dina said. "But...if we go back...that means Abby gets to live." I said and Dina gives me a concern look. "I know but...look, the most important thing is, we got Joel back, alive. That should count for something, right?" She asked me.

I look up at her in the eyes, for a moment, before I lower my head and nod. "You're right. Plus, with you being pregnant, we need to go back." I said and she nods at this. "And Dina..." she said and she turns her head to me. "I'm here for you if you ever need someone to help you out." I said and she smiles. "Thank you, (y/n). That means alot to me." She said.
