*(y/n)'s POV*
1 Year Later
"I think it goes like this..." Elliot said and he starts to strum the notes on his guitar. I watch his hands then I start to copy him but it still didn't sound right. "That's starting to sound like something." Joel said to me as he walks up to us.
Since mine and Elliot's birthday were so close together, we decided to celebrate in one day. And Joel seemed a bit excited at this as he said he had a surprise for the both of us. And honestly, so were Elliot and I; we were curious at what Joel was hiding.
We look up at him and I scoff. "I suck." I said, disappointed. "Nah...just need to build up your callouses, that's all." Joel told me and I look down at my fingers. "Man." I grumble then I look up at Joel. "All right, c'mon." Joel said. "This it?" Elliot asked. "Yeah." Joel said. "Oh shit!" Elliot and I exclaimed, excitedly, as we set our guitars down and follow Joel.
"We're gonna start guessing." Elliot said as we walked along the trails. "You two wanna spoil your surprise now?" Joel asked him, curiously. "I dunno." We muttered and I place a finger on my chin, as if I'm thinking.
"Is it a dinosaur?" Elliot asked and Joel scoffs, softly, at this. "Stop trying to guess, I ain't telling you." Joel told him and Elliot scoffs. "All right. Is it...an elephant?" I asked and Joel grumbles at this. "Is it a convertible?" asked Elliot. "You two are not gonna guess." Joel said.
"Is it a puppy? Is it a lotta kittens?" I asked. "You mean a litter?" Joel asked me. "What's a litter?" I asked, confused. "A bunch of kittens." Joel replied.
"Then why is it not just called a bunch of kittens?" Elliot asked. "I don't know. It's called a litter." Joel said, slightly annoyed, and we come up to this ledge and Joel pushes a branch back for Elliot and I to shimmy our way through.
"Mind your step." He warned us as we walk up and pass him. "Got it." I said and we start to walk pass him when Joel pushes both of us. "Oops." He said and both Elliot and I let out a surprised yell and fall into the water.
I was shocked for a moment but I swim up and resurface. Elliot comes up a moment later as we hear Joel laugh. "What is wrong with you?" I exclaimed, angrily. "You two should see your faces right now." Joel said, laughing and smiling. "What if I drowned?" Elliot asked, angrily. "You're not gonna drown." Joel said, dismissively. "You gotta work on that confidence, kiddo."
"Yeah, keep laughing, old man." I said as Joel laughs then points up ahead. "This way." He said. "You're the worst!" Elliot shouts and we start to swim.
"You're swimming's getting better. Remember now, just don't flail about, you gotta--" Joel started to explain but Elliot talks over him. "Push the water with your whole arm. Blah, blah, blah." He grumbles as we meet up with a ledge and get out of the water while Joel walks ahead of us. "Glad to know I'm getting through." Joel said as we come up to a ledge.
"Kids, c'mere. Take a look at this. You see that deer over there?" Joel asked as we walk up to him. "Where?" We asked and Joel points it out across the lake. "See it? Yeah, just through there, look." Joel said and Elliot and I bend down to look to see what he was pointing at. "Yeah, we see it." Elliot whispers and I look over to my right at Joel then at the water, finally get an idea.
"Looks, like..." I said then I shove Joel down into the water. "Whoa!" He shouts and he splashes into the water and Elliot starts to laugh. "How's that feel?" I asked Joel as he resurfaced, my arms spread out.
"Refreshing." Joel replied. "Yeah, it's not nice getting pushed in, is it?" Elliot asked him. "Well...actually we need to swim through this part anyway." Joel tells us and I scoff a bit. "I got you back, you're angry and upset." I said, annoyed that I didn't get the right reaction from him. "I am very angry and upset. Now c'mon." Joel said, sarcastically, and Elliot and I scoff before we jump in the water.
