"I'm sorry what?" The director asked me in disbelief.

"Oh, it's nothing Director Shepard, I need a cotton swab and an evidence bag" I said.

I crouched down to examine the blood splatter.

'Definitely not killed by a gun, there's too much bleeding. Plus the gun would have blood splatter on it and there is no spray of blood, not a knife wound otherwise why would they leave a gun?, why is the gun even here, if it wasn't used?. There is too much blood here it can't be from one person, so multiple killings, but what is the point of setting this up? A distraction perhaps? Trying to cover up tracks? If so I'm dealing with amateurs, no, the person behind this is smart, it's his or her hired help that's their problem. Where did the blood supply come from? I need to analyze this, it may help me'

Shepard gave me the cotton swab and I took a sample of blood, putting it into a plastic evidence bag.

"Detective I need another pair of eyes" I said looking at the young man standing next to the tape, he came over and I stepped back.

"Tell me what you see"

The man looked at me uncertainly.

"Just do as she says detective cross and that's an order" Wolff growled.

"Give him a minute to observe" I snapped at him.

Wolff glared at me but said nothing.

" Um...well, there's a lot of blood here..." Cross started, looking at me. I nodded for him to continue.

"Too much blood here that's odd and the guns clean so I'm guessing the victim were stabbed?" He said.

"Hmm, sound analysis, well it would be if it was a murder" I stated.

"So your saying this wasn't a murder it was some kind of hoax?" Director Shepard asked.

I laughed. "Oh no, no, no, director, this was murder, it wasn't a murder it was more then one, the victims weren't killed here, this is a distraction to keep you away from something bigger, have you had more cases like this?" I asked.

"Yes" he replied. "One in the last month, we thought nothing of it, a simple joke maybe, we're still inclined to believe that it was a college student prank until someone reported gun shots at this scene, it doesn't make sense"

"Of course it does" I scoffed. "You have a serial killer that covers their tracks, you should be focusing on both crime scenes did any missing persons file report happen just before it happened? And why would they need a distraction? Focus on those questions it should help...and keep you off my back" I added the last part under my breath.

"What are you going to do?" Wolff growled.

"Talk to the witness's, see what I can get that you couldn't" I said simply, walking in their direction. I headed towards a police car siting on the curb of the crime scene. Two shaken brunettes stood in front of it, the younger girl had her head buried in her finances shoulder.

"Hello girls" I smiled softly. "I'm katie Holmes I'm working this case can you answer a few questions?" I decided to be nice for the sake of the distraught girl, unless of course they decide to take to long.

The older girl looked at her young lover, she nodded and then looked up at me.

"my names Alice and this is my fiance Laura, she can't really speak so I will answer for her" Alice said softly.

"Alright then can you describe your night right up until the moment you heard the gun shot?"

'please don't be a back story' I thought.
