Expect the Unexpected - Jemily

8 - Life Sucks

The three agents made their way around the rooms all of the victims were in and they managed to get a little information out of each.

On the way back to the station, Elle sat in the back with JJ as they caught up on the past year and a half of each other's lives. JJ was happy to hear that Elle was still working with the police force and Elle was happy to find out that JJ was doing well. Emily didn't have anything to contribute to the conversation because this was the first time she'd met Elle, so she sat in silence. She was just content to hear JJ and her old friend catch up as she navigated the streets of New York.

When they arrived at the station, Spencer's arms were around Elle before she could even utter 'hello'. Apparently Spencer had missed his friend more than he had realised.

Despite Elle annoying Penelope when they used to work together the bubbly blonde was just as excited to see her. Morgan had his fist out ready to bump Elle who rolled her eyes and flung her arms around his neck. Morgan's hands rubbed up and down her back. He also hadn't realised how much he's missed her until she was right in front of him. Rossi settled for a handshake and even though he's never met Elle.

Hotch was the odd one out. Instead of physical affection he opted for a joke. He shrugged his jacket off and held it out to her which made her burst into laughter. Only Elle and Hotch understood the joke but it made Elle comfortable to know they were on better ground than the last time they'd talked.

"Good to see you Greenaway, what do you have for us?" Elle jumped straight in, providing the details from each of the victims. Luckily, they were able to piece all of the statements together to create a bigger picture and get a better idea of what the unsub was like, and how he treated his victims.

Once they had most of the information to confirm their profile they could arrest the unsub. Elle and JJ stayed at the police station with Penelope, all three of them catching up on what they had missed since the last time they spoke to each other.

An hour later, Hotch and Morgan came back into the station with the unsub in handcuffs and the rest of the tem following closely behind them. They took him straight to the interrogation room and Elle started. She put on a fake sympathy act to get the unsub to comply but it didn't seem to be working.

He seemed to be clueless as to what was going on which confused everyone. They had been sure this was the unsub, but maybe they were wrong. Elle opted to go and speak to some of the victims again with JJ and see if they could get any information about his accent, whether it was native to New York, or somewhere else. Rossi continued to interrogate the unsub with the many methods he had gained over the years.

Sure enough, a phone call from Elle later told them that they had the wrong person. This was not their unsub. They gathered again and reviewed the geographical profile, compared to the criminal profile. Garcia added in past sex crimes on adolescent girls and they reviewed the few people who came up on that search.

They all agreed that the last person on their list was the unsub and went to make the arrest. They barely had to say anything before he admitted to all of the charges which made their job a lot easier.

The case was over fairly quickly, so they flew back to Virginia. Elle opted to fly with them and take a short, impulsive vacation. She sat with the rest of the girls talking and laughing, occasionally sitting with Spencer for a few minutes and listening to the facts he had for her. She had missed the ramblings from Spencer more than she liked to admit.

By the time they got back to Quantico it was getting late so they finished their files and went home. JJ was quiet for most of the night and it surprised her girlfriend. She was usually quite bubbly, even when she wasn't feeling too well.

Emily asked her about it and JJ admitted that it was strange seeing her ex again. She didn't realise how much she'd missed being in Elle's company. A little jealousy ran through Emily's body but she managed to hide it pretty well.

JJ insisted she was fine and made her way into the bedroom of her apartment. She turned away from Emily and slept on the edge of the bed. Had Emily not known JJ was sad, she'd have thought she did something to upset her girlfriend.

The next morning JJ was back to her usual self and she was talking about meeting up with everyone for a meal, as friends rather than as a team. Emily agreed to going. Sometimes it was nice to spend time together even if they weren't on a case.

The restaurant Hotch had chosen required everyone to dress up which JJ enjoyed. She had a reason to curl her hair and look pretty. It was rare they got to do something like this and to be all together when they did it was pretty amazing.

At some point during the meal Elle had let slip about how much she hated New York. She missed the environment of the BAU and all of them nodded. It was something they could all understand. they had built their own family and leaving it was always a little painful.

Hotch let Elle know that they were looking for another agent and she was more than welcome to apply. The smile on Elle's face let Hotch know that he had definitely said the right thing.

Elle went back to New York after her interview and packed up her apartment. She had been successful getting the job as the new agent and the whole team was excited to have her back.

JJ had returned to her normal self and was spending more time with Emily, always making her smile and laugh. Their relationship was strong and everything they could both ask for.

Penelope informed them all when Elle moved into her new apartment in Virginia which meant that she would be starting her job soon. JJ was excited at the prospect of working with Elle again. They had been close before she had left and to even be in the same room as her was a dream come true.

Ever since Elle had come back, Emily had been feeling a little insecure. JJ assured her that she didn't have anything to worry about but there was still a strange feeling in the back of Emily's mind. She couldn't put her finger on why though.

She left the office early one day to go to her doctor's appointment about changing her medication. Once that was sorted she picked up some take away food and made her way to JJ's apartment. She couldn't wait to see her girlfriend and spend time with her, especially because she knew JJ hadn't been feeling too good recently.

She opened the door with a huge smile on her face but paused when she could hear noises coming from somewhere in the apartment. It sounded like JJ was in pain.
