Chapter 1
Defense
╭────»»・:*:・゚★««────╮I opened my eyes to the bright lights of a hospital room. I blinked a few times, my eyes adjusting to the harshness of the lights as I gently sat up. I looked around, surveying my surroundings. I saw my mom and Uncle Toshi sitting in some chairs, looking quite worried. I smiled gently as they looked over and saw me awake. Uncle Toshi ran up to me and hugged me while Mom came up and kissed my forehead.
“How are you doing, sweetie?”
She asked, her eyes filled with concern. Uncle Toshi let go of me and looked at me as well, his eyes also concerned, though more than my mother’s. She knew I was capable of handling my quirk, despite me being in the hospital for overusing it right now, but Uncle Toshi still felt the need to baby me and worry a lot.
“I’m doing better.. I don’t feel like I have a headache or anything, so that’s good. How long was I out for?”
Mom relaxed a little upon hearing that I was okay. When I asked how long I was out for, Uncle Toshi grimaced.
“A day..”
I raised my eyebrows.
“A day? That’s it?”
Uncle Toshi’s eyes widened as his voice raised in volume.
“Just because you were out for one day doesn’t mean tha-”
The door swung open and in walked Ochako and the green-haired boy from the fight. Ochako seemed like she was just crying and the boy seemed a bit worried. Uncle Toshi smiled upon seeing them.
“Young Midoriya-!”
His voice boomed. Midoriya smiled weakly and waved at Uncle Toshi. My eyes widened a bit.
“Uncle Toshi, aren’t you not supposed to show people your ‘other form’?”
I made air quotes around the words other form. He just continued smiling as he hugged Midoriya.
“True, but I’ve already had a run-in with him before.”
Midoriya hugged Uncle Toshi back and looked at me with interest.
“All Might is your uncle..?”I giggled softly and could see Urarka trying to stifle a laugh.
“No, he’s just close with my family and has known me since birth. He sometimes looks after me when Mom is off with missions.”
Uncle Toshi grinned, then checked the clock on the wall. He raised his eyebrows a bit.
“I got to go everyone-! Important business to attend to. I’ll see you for our training session later, Young Midoriya!”
He yelled and he was out of the room before I could say goodbye. Ochako came and hugged me gently, trying not to hurt me. I hugged her back, smiling.
“I’m fine, Ochako-Chan! Really. I just overused my power.”
She rolled her eyes a little, but enough for me to notice.
“Hey-!”
I yelled at her and we’d start giggling. I saw Midoriya looking at us. He seemed a bit uncomfortable and I could easily see that he was blushing as he looked at Uraraka. I smiled at him, deciding to tease her after he left, so as not to make him more uncomfortable. He smiled back and would seem to loosen up a little bit. I’d look at him and would remember how hurt he seemed when the blonde boy shoved him out of the way yesterday. I frowned a bit and decided to ask about it.
“Midoriya, how’s the blonde boy doing..?”
“O-oh, Kacchan? He’s doing fine-! Thank you for saving him..”
“Of course, but if you don’t mind me asking, why did he shove you after he was released? I’m just asking because you seemed hurt..”
He’d stop smiling and I could see the hurt return to his eyes.
“K-kacchan just doesn’t like it when I touch him.. W-we’re still friends though..! Have been since we were kids..”
I could see he was still in pain, and maybe even lying, about this, but decided to drop the subject. I didn’t want to invade his personal life. If he wants to talk about that, he can, but right now, it seemed better to leave him alone. I just smiled in response and saw him blush a little, but smile back. I guess he just wasn’t used to being around girls. That’s fine with me though.
After about half an hour, Ochaco needed to get back home, so Midoriya decided to walk her back, trying to be polite. Before they left, I gave Ochaco that smirk that meant I knew what was happening. She just blushed and shook her head, trying to deny it. I laughed and waved goodbye to them as they stepped out of the hospital room. Once the door closed, I was starting to lay back down, as I was a little tired from sitting up and talking to people. However, before I had the opportunity, the doorknob started loudly jiggling and turned to the side. I instantly sat up straighter and stared at the door, scared that some villain was going to come in. I mean, probably not possible in a hospital, but come on! I have every right to be paranoid. Instead of a villain however, walked in that blond boy who I had saved, the one named ‘Kacchan’.
He was staring angrily at me, clearly upset. He slammed the door shut and stomped over to my bed. He looked like he was about to breathe fire from how angry he seemed. I tried to look back at him calmly, but it was kind of obvious that I was scared. His blonde hair was out in all directions, and his eyes seemed blood red. He started yelling at me,
“You didn’t need to save me, you damn extra! I was perfectly capable of saving myself!”
I tried to hold my tongue back, so as not to say something that would upset him more, but that’s easier said than done.
“Oh really? Then why did it seem like you were struggling and also gasping for air? Hm?”
He seemed to get even angrier and livid at that remark. He raised an arm, about to punch me, when the door opened once again and I saw my mother walk in. Her eyes widened as she yanked the boy back by his collar.
“Get. Out. Of. This. Room.”
She growled to him, still holding him tightly. His anger seemed to fade a little, and fear started to replace it a bit, but he covered it up by scoffing, yanking himself from her grip, and stomping out the door, slamming the door again. Mom sighed and shook her head in disbelief at his behavior.
“Jesus that kid.. I’m just glad you’re okay, Y/N..”
I smiled at Mom and smirked.
“When am I not okay? The worst pain I’ve been in is when I broke my arm last year.”
She shook her head again and sighed, this sigh a little deeper and sadder.
“Yes, I know.. But you need to know how to protect yourself. I know you can easily use your quirk to attack, but you need defense as well. I’m not always going to be here to save you.”
I nodded, my eyes drifting downwards as I thought about that. What she was saying WAS true. I could easily attack anybody, whether emotionally or physically, or with or without my quirk, but defense wasn’t my strong suit. That’s where Mom came in. Whenever I was in trouble, it seemed she had some sort of sixth sense and was able to come save me when I needed it. However.. She makes a point. I need to work on defending myself, especially if I want to go to UA. I might have the option to get in by recommendations, since my mom is a pro-hero, but no way am I doing that. That would be lazy and pointless, and those are two things that I am not.
