Chapter 3
“I accept this change in power..”
╭────»»・:*:・゚★««────╮They took their hands off of me and I stepped forward, being careful so that I wouldn't turn around.
“A-alright.. Well, I guess I can’t ask your name, since you want me to forget you after this and I can’t see you.. But do you mind me asking what your quirk is?”
“I have a quirk where I can push people’s abilities up to their full potential. I just need them to say a certain phrase and touch them, then their quirk gets boosted.”
They replied, sighing a little.
“Okay.. d-do you know what people’s full potential quirks are? Like, what would I be able to do with my quirk that’s new..?
I asked, stuttering slightly.
I heard their feet shuffling against the ground softly as they transferred their body weight to a different leg.
“Well, seeing the potential takes a lot of my energy.. But I can say yours, I guess. Give me your palm. Like, stretch your hand out backwards.”
I did as asked, but slowly, so as not to seem gullible, which I probably was by now. I felt calloused fingers grazing my palm and a soft buzzing. When it stopped, I felt them back away and I put my hand back down at my side.
“Well..?”
“Y-you’ll be able t-to control y-your smoke.. Like.. M-making a smoke screen t-to protect yourself.. A-and.. Lifting and pushing t-things..”
I heard them wheeze, trying to catch their breath. I thought this over some more. That did sound pretty nice.. I’d be able to defend myself and attack better! But..
“How do I know you’re not lying and not going to give me a stolen quirk or something?”
I asked, crossing my arms, my former confidence regained.
“I- .. I wouldn’t d-do that.. T-trust me..”
They were still wheezing, and I sighed, rolling my eyes slightly.
“Want me to make the pain go away so you stop wheezing?”
“Y-yes please..”
I sighed again and sent some bright teal smoke out of my palms (teal smoke calms people and can get rid of minor pains or numb major ones). I inhaled and exhaled deeply, enjoying the familiar scent of the smoke I used most often. It wasn’t the easiest to use, but with all the training I had done, it had become one of the easiest and definitely my favorite, as I could make myself feel relaxed or safe in a matter of seconds.
I heard an exhale from the person behind me and the shuffling of feet as they stood up.
“Thank you. Now.. are you willing to accept this quirk upgrade..?”
“Yes. I am..”
I knew I was probably very gullible for letting a random stranger who I knew barely anything about try to ‘upgrade’ my quirk. They could easily hurt me in a matter of seconds. Also, what if this person is a villian?! They probably are.. A hero wouldn’t be going around upgrading other quirks. So, great. I had just accepted new abilities from a VILLIAN. Great going, Y/N..
“Stretch out your hand. Like you did earlier.”
I obliged and gave them my hand, palm up. I felt the same calloused fingers grazing my hand and a strange surge of energy was sent through me. It felt like being shocked by electricity, but slightly different.. almost.. pleasing in a way.
“Now, repeat after me: I accept this change of power.”
“I accept this change of power.”
The electric feeling increased to a point where it wasn’t pleasing anymore and it was just downright painful. I bit my bottom lip harshly, trying to contain from screaming out in agony. After a few minutes, it stopped and I was on my knees, panting for breath.
“It’s done.. Now, remember, don’t speak of this to ANYONE.”
I heard the thumping of footsteps running away as I continued to regain my breath.
What had I just done..?

After the mystery person left, I slowly started to feel the pain of the punch I had suffered from earlier. The blood, thankfully, had stopped dripping, but I still had a gash on my forehead that needed to be cleaned up. I headed back inside and went straight to the bathroom to treat it.
I heard the front door open a few minutes later as I was carefully wrapping my forehead with gauze. I would’ve just used a bandage, as that’s a lot easier, but I didn’t want to look stupid with a big bandaid on my face. Mom’s voice rang through the house,
“Y/N~! Where are you? I’m home, finally!”
“In the bathroom, Mom!”
I finished wrapping my head just as she walked in, her eyes displaying how tired she was from work. She noticed the gauze but didn’t question it, as I often got hurt while training, pain slowly becoming a common feeling for me.
“Alright, well, I hope you’re doing okay, as you used gauze instead of a bandage.. If you start to feel any pain, use your smoke to sooth it, then get me, okay?”
I rolled my eyes, as she always worried whenever I got hurt. I know, parents are supposed to worry about their kids, and Mom definitely worries about me when I’m in pain, but sometimes she can be a little extra. Thankfully, she’s come to terms realizing that I can take care of myself and that I’m not that fragile.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me, missy. Anyways, I’ll be starting dinner soon.”
“Mkay, Mom. I’ll be in my room.”
Mom headed off to the kitchen while I went upstairs into my room. I opened the door and took a deep breath of the refreshing scent of f/s (favorite scent/smell). I closed the door and turned off my diffuser and sat on my bed, kicking off my shoes. I grabbed my laptop, about to start watching a show while Mom made dinner, but decided to test out my new quirk upgrade from the sketchy person.
I put the laptop away and sat straight, putting my hands palms up on my knees, to allow the smoke to flow more easily. I inhaled and exhaled slowly before closing my eyes and imagining a smoke shield. I didn’t know how this upgrade worked, so I just imagined a small circle of white smoke, something small, floating in midair. I opened one eye a little to see if it worked and gasped in surprise.
In front of me was that small smoke shield I had envisioned. Smoke was still slowly spilling from my palms, so I refrained from closing my hands in case that stopped the flow. I stood up, my eyes transfixed on the floating smoke, about to touch it with one hand until I heard the door open.
“Y/N, dear, what do you want for din- OH MY GOD!”
Mom stood in the doorway with shocked eyes, staring at the smoke and at me.
“Hey Mom..! Heh.. I have something to tell you..”

*Author’s Note*
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a long time. I lost motivation to write and had a bunch of stuff going on in my life. I finally finished up the chapter, making it a decent length, and am starting on the 4th one now! BTW, I have a new thing I’m going to do where if I want to show pictures as a reference to something, I’m going to make an additional chapter which will be called ‘3.5’ or whatever number chapter it is and put the pictures there, so you can switch between them if you need a visual reference. That’s all! Thank you for reading so far! I hope you’re enjoying the story~ <3
