Chapter 3
As we were trudging up the hill, Nicki put Kara down two minutes after he picked her up because it was too steep. He isn't as strong as he likes to fancy himself, as say maybe Derek. Kara wasn't kidding when she said these boys grew muscles overnight. Even in a t-shirt I could tell Derek was lean and grown.
We were coming up on a path, overlade with swooping trees, shadowing us, darkening the forest and blanketing the sun. The bright day was turning into night, making the Archbolt Manor even creepier.
It was well hidden in the woods with no other houses, or anything for that matter around, at all. It is a psycho murderers perfect place to torture all too curios dumb kids, like us, and no one would even be able to hear our screams. I shivered at the sadistic thought.
"Okay so here it is, let's go," Kara said turning around as we came up to an enormous gate around the whole perimeter of the property and the entre way to the drive.
The mansion was even scarier than I thought. It was absolutely humongous and literally looked like an American version of an old mid-evil castle. It was covered in blue grey stone that was falling off the mansion only held together by crawling ivy ropes. In between the stones were substantial windows that were broken and cracked. It looked like it had been subject to one too many Halloween trashing's needing some major TLC. It was one big looming shadow that was ready to swallow who ever went in. In the center there was a main large window toward the top section of the house that had an old crystal chandelier barely hanging and it flickered as we stood outside the gate. Oh, God.
"Not so fast," Nicki replied, grabbing Kara's wrist and walking up to the gate.
"Nicki, don't," she pleaded. But he sauntered up to the gate and pushed on the old iron bars and looked back at us with a pleased expression as the gate just creaked open. I gulped at the slowly opening gate and steady creaky yelp it made every centimeter further it opened just saying, "welcome to your horrifying death." But before I could chicken out Kara pleaded with Nicki again, "Oh, no. If it's open that means someone has been in there, and if someone has been in there that means it's not abandoned, and if it's not abandoned then some disgusting scary creeper is waiting on the other side. No thank you!"
"Or a murderer," I quickly added agreeing with Kara.
"Yeah, and they always go after the pretty girls so I think we should go."
"Wait! Don't move!" Nicki said as Kara and I were about to make a run for it. "We already came all this way, let's just take a little peek. Come on Kara, I'll protect you," he said smirking and offering her his hand. I had to hold back more vomit at the notion of Nicki protecting anyone from anything. But Kara looked at Nicki's hand uneasy but took it, unwillingly, walking through the gate by his side.
Oh, great, so now I was going to get murdered or kidnapped by some disgusting creeper. Lucky me. I slid through the gate after them and Derek was right behind me, good for me, you never want to be the first or last person when going into a horror house. But he was closer than I thought when Nicki, who was in the front, unfortunately for him, he better watch out or leather face is going to come and saw off his legs, stopped short causing Derek to lightly bump into me. I could feel his hot breath on my neck like a wet tickle.
"What?" I whispered afraid to talk normal incase a ghost or murderer was listening.
"The front door is open," he replied.
"Oh, hell no," I said just as Kara so eloquently did when we even mentioned the idea of coming up here.
Kara held on tight to Nicki and Derek was hanging behind, now not wanting to get too close to me it seemed, which was annoying. He can grope all these other girls but can't stand shoulder to shoulder with me.
