Chapter 21
Ding dong! Ding dong!
The sound I woke up to the next morning. Who could that be so early? I flipped over to look at my clock and it said 11:00 AM. Woah. How did I sleep that long? I laid back down figuring Gram would answer the door. Then another, "Ding dong! Ding dong!" Ugh. I guess it's time to get up.
I walked down the stairs drowsily rubbing my eyes. I caught up on some much needed sleep but it still didn't seem to be enough. I peered around the kitchen and living room for Gram with no trace of her. I walked to the back door to see if she was maybe out on the deck watering plants and drinking more wine. But she wasn't there either. Now where did she go? Another, "Ding dong!" and I yelled, "Coming!" and went to the front door. When I opened it I was nothing short of surprised.
"Took ya long enough," the unexpected visitor grunted and shoved me aside to enter the house with two coffees in hand. "Rise and shine, sleeping beauty! I'm here to make your day."
"Sarah? What are you doing here?" I asked. "And how do you know where I live?"
"Details not so little blood diamond, details," she sang setting the coffees down on the counter. "So, this is the digs, huh?" she mused as she moseyed through the kitchen her hands on her designer belted jean waist to take a look around. "Not bad."
"Thanks," I slowly said. "So, what are you doing here?" I repeated.
"I told you, to make your day," she also repeated.
"How's that?" I asked confused by this high energy after just rolling out of bed.
"My presence, duh," she replied rolling her perfectly lashed eyes. "I figured these coffees would help too. It's a Kona blend with vanilla macadamia, my personal favorite. Bold and semi-sweet, just like me," she winked.
I grabbed one of the cups eager for a caffeine dose and was hooked. "Yum," I licked my cool lips. "This is probably one of the best coffee's I've ever had."
"You're welcome," she smiled her signature sultry smile, her crimson hair wavy today, bouncing around her torso. "So, I was thinking we could grab breakfast and go to this waterfall to explore?"
"That sounds awesome," I replied, excited by the spontaneous adventurous plans.
"Okay, get dressed," she ordered. "We'll come back here after breakfast to change into bathing suits. I don't eat at establishments in a bikini like an ill-mannered slob."
"Okay," I laughed. As cool and dangerous as Sarah was, even she still had her boundaries. I quickly through myself together; brush, mascara, bronzer, white and blue tie-dye tank top dress. Five minutes flat and I was ready. Definitely a new record.
"Do you want me to drive?" I called coming down the stairs.
"No, I have the Rover. I'll drive," she replied handing me my cold coffee delight.
I locked up the house and climbed into the sleek white Rover. "Did you really get custom license plates to say 'SparkleUp'?"
"Of course," she said, almost offended that I asked.
"Isn't that illegal to have a license plate with that many characters though?"
"Anything illegal can be bought," she simply stated. Oh, the life of a richie. "What's good eats around here?" she asked as we drove the long hill.
"There's a diner or," I began to list some of the few places around.
"Ew, I don't do diners."
"Well, there's," I began again.
