Never Letting Him Go

I'm standing here waiting for him. It's cold the snow falls from the sky like confetti. Ice cold glittery confetti. He promised me he would be here. I left the party like he asked. I didn't know if this was some sort of trick or if he was really home. He had been away for almost a year. My best friend since forever. He turned 16 and had to leave. Only his sister Jessie stayed here. She owned the car service shop in town. She couldn't afford to leave, supposedly anyway. She always had a good business.
"Harmony!" I hear his voice from the end of the bridge interrupting my thoughts. I turn towards the voice. There he was. Miles. My Miles. His black poofy curly hair coming out around his orange beanie. I felt a smile sneak across my lips. It was true he came back to me. I ran at him. As we collided I heard him laugh. I wrapped my arms around him. He smelled the same but he was thinner his body felt harder. He kissed my forehead as he wrapped his shockingly muscular arms around me. "I'm here Harmony... I'm not leaving you again." I began to cry at his words. When he left he broke me and to hear this hurt my soul
"You didn't call... You didn't write..." I pulled away from him to look at him. "I didn't get anything from you except a text a half-hour ago. You put a note in my bag that said some half-assed goodbye! How could you?" I heard my voice crack. "And you text me out of nowhere to meet you here. It's after fucking midnight. What the hell is going on!"

"Let me explain..." Miles began.
"How do I even know if it's the truth?!" I screamed I ran my hands through my hair. I felt more tears sting my eyes. This was absolutely the craziest thing that has every happened to anyone ever... "How am I supposed to trust you at all?" Truth is I couldn't trust him. Everyone in my life always left me... He just taught me not to trust anyone... But my heart wants to trust him
"I'm still the same person baby... Just physically altered." He laughed but I didn't see any humor in of his words.
"You lost the right to call me baby." I pointed my finger at him angrily. The audacity of this jerk.
"Fair enough but I'll earn that right back." He smirked. His dark brown eyes seemed to sparkle like the snow.
"And just what makes you think I didn't move on?" I questioned harshly.
"You wouldn't have shown up if you did. Especially not to our spot. I know you, honey." He wasn't wrong...
"Fuck this I'm going back to the party," I said spinning on my heels and falling flat on my face trying to take one step forward. He picked me up bridal style. It felt like he never left. Which made me feel crazy... How could I feel this way I'm supposed to be angry with him.
"Yeah... I think you've had enough to drink." He said carrying me to his car. "I'm taking you home." I wanted to be mad but this is all I have wanted for a year. Just to be in his arms again felt like he never left. I snaked my arms around his neck and held on tight. "There's my girl" he whispered into my hair kissing the top of my head.

"Stay with me tonight..." I whispered sheepishly. All my anger seemed to wash away.
"I said I wouldn't leave you again didn't I?" I just smiled into his chest. He opened the car door and gently placed me in the passenger seat then buckling me in."Safety first." He whispered. He shut the door and ran around to the driver's side. After hearing his seat belt click the engine roared to life. We drove for what felt like forever in silence luckily we pulled into my driveway.

I had a flashback to the last night I saw him. He walks me to my door leans down and kisses me with a fever-like passion. He held me for a moment in silence. Then he whispered
"Baby I love you more than you will ever know. I will see you soon okay?" I nodded into his chest. "You take care of yourself alright?" He let go of me turned and walked away.
"I love you too, butthead," I yelled after him. I walked into my house up the stairs and into my room. It wasn't until the next morning I found the note he wrote to say goodbye.

Harmony,
I have to be gone for a while... I don't know when I'll be back... But for now, this is goodbye. Please just remember to take your meds and drink water. I love you.
