At the beach

Lena's POV

Apparently, the beach is only 600 meters away. I look at my right and see a nice little restaurant that's part of the campside and then notice a little board which is written on with chalk.

Tonight, from 9 to 12 p.m. it's karaoke time!

Kara follows my eyes and, to my disappointment, she starts to look at me expectantly.

'No.'

'Oh come on, Lena! No one will judge you. You don't have a reputation here, you can just be free. Take that comfort zone and trow it out!'

It sounds easy when she says it. But it's simply not in my nature to stand on a stage and let myself go. I sigh when I look up and see the stairs that lead to the beach. There is an elevation rate of at least 20%.

'You're here to relax remember?'

I look at her soothing blue eyes and it's like I said, her happy and spontaneous character is just contagious.

'Okay, I'll go watch you sing at the karaoke night.'

'And..?'

'I will sing one song, but together with you! And after a few shots. Not sure if they have those here though.'

Kara chuckles, clearly very content with herself, 'deal.'

Once I have climbed all the stairs, my body is fighting to provide me of enough oxygen.

'How come', deep breath, 'that you're not', wheeze, 'out of breath?' I put my hands on my knees and bend my body.

'Maybe because I am used to carrying planes and stuff.' She says in a whisper.

I slap my forehead. 'How could I forget?'

I burry my toes in the hot sand and goosebumps spread across my body. I close my eyes and enjoy the warmth of the sun on my skin. When I open them, my right eye start to sting like crazy. I realise a drop of sweat has trickled in it. It's so hot. Then I see that delicious sea. Light blue, like Kara's eyes. Without thinking twice I throw off my dress and run towards it

I look down, suddenly a little self-conscious about my body. I am so pale. And I've never seen myself so skinny. I'm almost too thin. But all my worries wash off by the fresh water. I dive in, head first, and everything is quiet for a while. When you're underwater, it feels like you disappear from the Earth. No one can see you, you can see no one and all you hear are muffled voices. I let out all of my breath so that I sink to the bottom. I lay down on the sand at the bottom and open my eyes, ignoring the prickling of the salt water.

I see a familiar salmon pink colour hovering over me so I float up again. It's not that deep yet so I can stand up with the water reaching a bit up to my waist. Once my eyes have adjusted to the bright sun, I find Kara gaping at me. I'm getting insecure again and look away, a little embarrassed.

'Woah'. It was quiet but I heard her.

'What was that?' I'm getting back a little of my confidence and give her a smirk. Her face is a deep shade of red and I don't think it's because of a sunburn.

'You-you look beautiful. Your eyes are so green right now and-' She looks at her hands after looking down at my body. I like teasing her so I move a little closer to her and place my lips near her ear so I can whisper 'and what?'. She gasps and I move back to look at her face.

'And you have an amazing body. Now leave me alone will you?' She splashes water in my face to laugh this off. I take my revenche by taking her shoulders and shoving her underwater. Of course I could have realised that she is a hundred times stronger so in no time I am the one who is pushed underwater. I take a dramatic breath when she pulls me back up and pretend to have almost drowned.
