Prologue.

"I hate them." Rabecca declared as she plunged herself into a tattered leather sofa.

"You don't mean it." Her friend Gladys responded from the kitchen of the little studio apartment.

"I do." Rabecca replied as she  rearranged the pillows that were underneath her head.

"Is it because it is too painful for you to hear them tell you the truth?"

"Oh please! That is so cliché!"

Gladys shrugged her shoulders at the girl and turned her attention back to the flour that she had been kneading.

"I wish I was like you. You're free, happy and no one has very great expectations of you." As the girl finished speaking that statement, her friend's face contorted into a grimace and Rabecca's face paled in response. "I am so sorry Gladys. I didn't mean it like that..."

Her friend scrunched up her face into a frown, stared into the mixing bowl and mumbled, "You didn't? I am an orphan Becca, I wish someone expected something of me!"

"Lady..."

"No princess! Go back home. You do not belong here."
