Me: Allen get on the floor!
I whisper to Allen. He gets out from under the cover and takes a pillow and blanket from my bed and quickly makes a believable bed on the ground. He lays down on it and pretends to be asleep.
Me: Come in!
The doorknob turns and I see Aaron enter my room. He looks at Allen on the ground and frowns.
Aaron: You know Allen could have slept in a guest room instead of on your floor
Oh my gosh it worked.
Me: Yeah I know but he didn't want to be alone with all the.. pain
Aaron nods understandingly.
Aaron: Well come down soon, some of the team is over for brunch
Me: right now they are??
Aaron: Yeah
Me: Oh ok yeah I'll be down soon
Aaron: Wake Allen up in a bit too k?
Me: OkayAaron shuts the door. I had no clue some of the team was over... what the heck. I look to Allen and his eyes are open and he's looking at me.
Me: What
Allen just smiles and looks away. I feel myself smile too. I get out of bed and Allen stands up and stretches. I take my pillow and blanket and put them back on my bed and Allen helps me remake it. Then I collapse onto my bed and curl up in a ball, covering my face with my knees. I'm really tired.
I hear Allen lay down next to me and I turn around to face him. He places his hand on my cheek and rests it there gently. I place my hand on top of his and feel how rough it is. I take his hand in mine and examine it. There is broken skin all over the surface and blisters here and there. I trace my finger over his hand and Allen winces. I set his hand back on the blankets and stare at it.
Me: Allen football has damaged you
Allen just nods.
Allen: yeah my hands are pretty rough. But I'm used to it.
I wasn't just talking about his hands though. Mentally too. The pain I know he's feeling from the loss.
Me: I can help you with your hands... and I know football has damaged you mentally too, Lizard. I can help with that too, if you want?
Allen: that is so kind of you Lay.
Me: Is that my nickname now?
Allen: I guess it isI giggle at it, it's kinda cute. Lay...
Me: Let's start with the easier side. Your hands.
Allen smiles at me and I take one of his hands in mine and examine it closer. There are about 5 blisters on his right hand, and cracked skin all over. And one dried blood scrape. I look at his other hand and it's almost identical. And his fingernails are cracked and dirty. I take his hand in mine and lead him into my bathroom. I turn on the sink and place his hands in the running water.
Me: Let your hands soak for about 5 minutes
Allen: Gotcha Lay
I smile at him and he grins back at me.
Allen: Thank you, Layla. For everything. No ones ever cared for me this way before... I appreciate it more than you know.
I flit my eyes up to him and I sink into his gaze. His brown eyes mesmerize me and I shake my head back into reality.
Me: It's nothing really
Allen: No, it's not nothing. It means a lot to me Layla.
I smile at him.
Me: Well in that case, I'm happy to be here for you Allen
He smiles at me and I feel butterflies in my stomach. I look back to his hands and I turn the temperature a bit warmer. When they're done soaking I set a towel on the counter and take his hands in mine, placing them on the towel. I wrap the towel around his hands to dry them. Then I get some rubbing alcohol to disinfect the blisters. Allen's eyes widen.
Allen: Does that hurt?
Me: Only for a couple seconds. Trust meAllen looks into my eyes then nods.
I pour some of it onto a washcloth and gently apply it to his wounds. Allen winces and I take it off for a second.
Allen: sorry. you can keep goingMe: It's ok
So I continue to apply it to his blisters and Allen bits his lip until I'm finished. I look at his hands and they look much better than before. I feel them and they are softer. Allen feels his own hands and he smiles.
Allen: They are so much softer
Me: water does wonders
Allen: Thank you again, Layla
Me: You don't need to thank me
I turn off the water in the sink and when I turn around Allen thrusts his arms around me and holds me tight. I'm surprised but his touch warms me instantly and more butterflies start to fly around in my stomach. I wrap my arms around him and return his embrace. He rests his head on my shoulder and holds me close to him. Then we pull away and life feels unreal in this moment, I don't know why. We blush and I remember breakfast
Me: We should probably go down to eat
Allen: Yeah probably
We share another smile and head out of my room and down the stairs. I see the team.
Jaire: You two have a fun time last night?
Jaire smirks and tries not to laugh at his remark. I glare at him
Me: I'm not like that you dipshit
Aaron: You two, knock it off. Jaire, that comment was unnecessary, Allen slept on the FLOOR in her room and my sister is not a hoe. Thank you very much
Jaire: I was kidding, and that's very low of you to assume that I would ever think of Layla as a hoe. I know she's not like that. I hope at least
Layla: I'M NOT WTF GUYS. ME AND ALLEN DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OH MY GOSH
Allen: Yeah we didn't. Why are we even talking about this??
Layla: Because Jaire decided to be a smart ass today. What's new??Jaire bites his lip and mutters something under his breath. I realize how close I was standing to Allen and I step away from him and walk over and sit down at the table and I'm not liking the atmosphere so far.
