-Chapter Ten-

"Mummy?"

"Hmm?" I groaned to the sound of my daughter's voice the next morning.

"I'm sick." My eyes opened instantly at two of my least favorite words.

"What kind of sick, baby?" I asked as I got out of bed and put my hand to her forehead.

"My throat hurts... so does my head." Her voice was scratchy and phlegm-y sounding.

"Do you want some water?" She nodded and I placed a kiss on her cheek. "Okay, I'll be right back."

I took a cup down from the dusty cabinets and Liam came in as I was rinsing it out.

"I know it was you." Was all he said as he got a pack of saltines.

"I don't have time for your childish arguments, Liam."

"Why the hell not? You know DAMN well what you did was wrong!"

"Liam, please, be-" I started, not wanting him to awaken my sick child.

"All you ever do are things for yourself, Mila! Did you ever think that I may actually like this girl? Did you?"

"I'm sorry." I picked at dead skin around my finger to avoid his furious gaze.

"You're SORRY?" He began to yell louder.

"Liam, be qui-"

"You're such a bitch, Mila." He finished slowly.

"Mummy! I threw up!" I heard Roni scream from our bedroom.

"Shit," I muttered as I dropped the cup of water and ran to the room. "Oh, my baby." I whispered and pushed the sweaty hair out of her face. "I'm so sorry." I lifted her out of the vomit stained bed and carried her into the living room.

"I'm sorry, mummy." She said pitifully as I set her on the couch and covered her with a blanket.

"Don't be sorry, it wasn't your fault. I'll have Nana wash the bed today while we stay inside and watch Christmas movies... sound like fun?"

"Yeah... Is Henry gonna come again today?"

"Yes," I smiled, "now, what do you want to watch first?"

"Mind if I choose?" I turned around to see Liam, I wondered how long he'd been watching me.

"Sure," Roni blew her nose when I handed her a tissue.

"Great... I pick... This." He slipped a disc in and went to the kitchen to make hot chocolate and get Roni a new glass of water. I pulled Veronica into my arms and leaned back on the couch.

"Where am I supposed to sit?" He asked as he set the drinks on the coffee table. Reluctantly I lifted my legs up and put the on his lap when he sat down. "Thanks."

When the movie started I laughed at what it was.

"Arthur Christmas? You KNOW this is my all time favorite Christmas movie!"

"It is?" He laughed. "Of course it is, it's the best."

Veronica sat up slowly without a word.

"What do you need, Roni?" I asked but she kept moving. She crawled into Liam's lap and snuggled down against his warm chest.

"Daddy," She whispered as she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around him as far as she could.
