The day went on quietly. Su-ryeon spent most of her time by herself, for she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened with Oh Yoon-hee. Of course it wasn't the first time they held hands, but unlike all those other times, it felt different. It felt more real and it made it dangerous. She shook her head and sighed. She needed to move on from whatever it was that she thought that was going on. Yoon-hee would never see her like that. Su-ryeon looked at the wall watch. It was nearly 8pm, time to have dinner. She glanced at the mirror in front of her bed and made sure that her makeup was in place before walking out of her bedroom. She was about to reach the first floor when she heard laughing. Su-ryeon stopped dead and took a moment to calm herself down. Her hands began to sweat. She reprimanded herself. She needed to pull herself together. She wasn't a teenager anymore. Su-ryeon took a deep breath and joined them. Ro-na was already sitting at the table with her mother.
"Where's Logan?" she asked Ro-na, noticing that the man wasn't around. She avoided eye contact with Yoon-hee and focused on the young girl only. Ro-na took a sip of juice before replying.
"He will eat in his office," Ro-na replied, rolling her eyes. Su-ryeon gave her a small smile and sat at the end of the table, next to Ro-na. She didn't have the energy to go looking for him, for Logan only ate in his office when he was too busy or mad.
"I hope you're enjoying dinner," Su-ryeon commented, focusing her attention on Yoon-hee. The woman smiled at her and nodded.
"I hadn't eaten this good in years. Food in jail was-" Yoon-hee stopped talking when she noticed the women's faces. Maybe talking about her experience in jail wasn't suitable for dinner. "Dinner is good. Thank you," she concluded, clearing her throat. Su-ryeon sighed and she started eating her own salad and chicken.
"Mina asked me to go out tomorrow," Ro-na said after a few minutes of silence. She poured herself more juice and drank it. Both women turned to look at her.
"Any luck with the apartment you were thinking of renting?" Su-ryeon asked her, excited. Ro-na and Mina had been best friends since she arrived in the USA and now they were thinking about renting a flat together when they finished university. Ro-na shook her head.
"That's why we're hanging out tomorrow. She can't stand living with her family anymore," Ro-na explained to her. "It would be good for us to live alone."
"Ruling a house is not easy, Ro-na. It's not the first time I tell you this," Su-ryeon said, grabbing her fork. Ro-na rolled her eyes.
"How will you pay the rent?" Yoon-hee asked her, concerned. Ro-na swallowed before answering her.
"I have a part time job and I have been saving money for quite a long time now. We'll make it work," she replied, proud of herself. Yoon-hee nodded. It wasn't easy for her to accept that her daughter wasn't a baby anymore. "And Hye-in lives close by, so she will be around most of the time," she said, excited. Su-ryeon smiled at her. Both girls had got along very well.
"And Ro-na knows that we're here to help her in whatever it is that she needs," Su-ryeon added, softly. Ro-na smiled at her. Yoon-hee stopped eating and analyzed what the woman had said. Who was she referring to with "we"? Was she talking about Logan and herself? Maybe they were dating after all. The chemistry was definitely there when they first met five years ago. Yoon-hee was lost in her own thoughts when she felt a pair of brown eyes staring at her. She raised her gaze from her half empty plate and her eyes met Su-ryeon's. The other woman's eyes went to her lips. Yoon-hee swallowed.
"Oh Yoon-hee, there's something on your chin," Su-ryeon said, touching her own to indicate her where the stain was, however, Yoon-hee didn't react. She was too nervous to process what was going on. "Allow me," she whispered, leaning in and stretching her hand to touch her chin with her thumb and index finger. Su-ryeon removed the drop of oil from her soft skin as she bit her own lower lip. Yoon-hee's eyes couldn't help but stare at her pink lips.
