Chapter 10

The music was loud and pumping and the scene was high and exciting. Groups mingled at the bar, many people on the dance floor. The layout was spacious enough that you didn’t feel crowded, but the amount of people inside the club was packed. Hotch and his date, who Catherine had learned to be named Amanda went over to the bar, the rest of the group following. They were to all grab a drink and then make their way over to one of the large sitting booths in which people could sit, drink, hang out and just have a good time. Spencer ordered a Crown Royal on the rocks and Catherine ordered a Blue Razz, which consisted of Blue Raspberry vodka, sprite, and a dash of sour mix. He smiled at the girlish drink choice but then realized she was still decently young to have acquired a taste for anything else such as scotch or bourbon. Emily eyed up Cat’s drink.

“That looks fantastic, what is that?” Emily said, staring. Cat smiled, raising her voice so she could be heard over the sound of the music.

“It’s called a Blue Razz. I work as a bartender sometimes for my aunt’s bar, so I know a little about mixed drinks. Here try it!” she handed Emily the glass as she ordered for another one. Emily took a sip and smiled. Cat grabbed the new glass and kept it for herself.

“Thanks Cat! Cheers!” Emily raised her glass up to Cat’s and they clanked them together and took a hearty sip. Akiva ordered cherry vodka with a splash of Malibu rum and orange juice. The blend created a fruity mix that was perfect for the setting. Hotch and Derek grabbed Corona beers, and JJ and Garcia both ordered just a vodka and tonic, nothing too strong.

After they grabbed their drinks they made their way over to the large booths that could fit all of them. The music was pumping as people pushed to get to the dance floor. Catherine took a sip of her drink, the alcohol burning smoothly down her throat. “Thanks for the invite Spencer! This is great!” Her eyes scanned the room, the dance floor lights illuminating in her chocolate brown eyes. He smiled and grabbed her hand again, feeling a bit bold.

“You’re welcome Cat! I’m glad you could make it!” He took another sip of his drink, grasping her hand lightly. JJ and Garcia exchanged glances and Emily and Derek smirked. Hotch was wrapped up in talking to his date to notice. Reid was actually surprised that Hotchner had decided to join them. He usually didn’t venture out to places like this. Then again neither did Reid, so it just must be a night for trying new things. Suddenly Akiva stood up, grabbing Derek’s shirt and dragging him with her. Without a word they ventured out to the dance floor, Derek shrugging with a smile at his co-workers. Cat smiled.

“Let’s go dance Spencer! Please?” Cat asked, grasping his hand lightly. Spencer thought over her question.

“I don’t know Cat. I’m not much of a dancer. You wouldn’t have much fun.” Spencer tried to explain but she shook her head.

“That’s okay Spencer, it will just be fun being there with you. It will be fun. I promise. Come on, I have to get used to dancing with less toes anyway!” She giggled, the alcohol giving her some liquid courage. He nodded in agreement. She was right. He also wanted to make her feel more comfortable, to get used to missing some toes. He stood up and held out his hand. She grasped it lightly as he led her out to the dance floor.

Here the music was pounding and almost nothing else could be heard, not even her own thoughts. She wrapped her arms around his neck and started swaying with her hips, side to side. He placed his hands gingerly on her hips, swaying with her. Gosh this is so awkward. How do I even dance with her?

She laughed at his confused expression, taking her hand and tracing her finger lightly at the back of his neck. This was a sensitive spot for Spencer and he shivered. Oh…that’s nice. His male instinct took over as he pulled her a bit closer to him, both of them swaying with the fast beat of the music. Her breath escaped into a soft moan as he did so, but she was thankful that the music was so loud he wouldn’t have heard it. Cat let all of the stress and the fear about Cassandra and her awful encounter slip away as she danced with Spencer into the night.
