❝Lâl❞
That's not what I meant when I said I picked myself the hottest guy. But obviously I had the secret and useless ability to attract all the maniacs to myself. "You must be crazy. Of course, no." As I got out of the car, I paused with the man's voice.
"Get ready for the evening, I'll come and get you."
I wonder if I was invisible. Couldn't you hear anything I said? Was I speaking to myself? Maybe I was dealing with someone who didn't understand the word "no." Marvelous. You wanted adventure, baby, here's your adventure. What better adventure than this? You left everything behind. Your past, your old life, everything. You hitchhiked to where you came from, you got yourself into a mob-like scourge. You found him in a big bar full of guys and kissed him on the lips. There's a gangster after you. What more adventure could you find?
"Honey, you didn't hear me, did you? I said no."
He went on like he didn't hear what I was saying. "First we have a nice dinner. We'll talk about it," he said. "Maybe I'll convince you." He was so confident, he couldn't even stand the word "no." So he knew his charms. Who knows how many women he stole his heart from and chased after him. Most women could fall in love with the muscles that fill their black shirt or their eyes, which look like arrows ready to be thrown into the heart. yes, I wasn't exaggerating. But not me. No, it couldn't have been me.
"Look, honey, you're handsome, we get it. You must have enthusiasts. There's a lot of people in this geography who like mobsters and tough guys. Come on, honey, look, you take care of them. Don't let our kiss encourage you."
I got out of the car and on my way back to the hostel, the man ordered, "I'm here at 8:00 p.m., get ready," and quickly disappeared as soon as he instructed the driver, "Let's go," without even waiting for my answer. I was surprised by the authoritarianism in the man's face and voice. Whatever I'm surprised about... I hate people telling me what to do. So of course I wasn't going to have dinner with him. Never.
No force could take me out to dinner with that man.
Instead of traveling in Bodrum that day, I sat in the hostel all day and read a book. I was always looking at the clock. I wonder if he could have done what he said. Of course he could, are you crazy, Lâl? Well, how much did I care about that? I couldn't say I didn't really care, since I was always staring at the clock.
Maybe I cared more, not a little bit.
By 6:00, I got ready and left. I walked into a bar like last night and I had fun. I guess I wasn't going to ruin my day because of some crazy guy, was I? Don't believe what I'm saying. Of course I was thinking about him. My mind was still recreating the scene of his anger behind the scenes when he came to the hostel and couldn't find me. Repeatedly. Every time it ended, it was coming back to life in my mind.
I got a little loose when I had two beeries, fortunately. I realized the man sitting next to me had been staring at me for 20 minutes, but I turned around and went back to the bartender without looking at him. "One more."
"Can I buy you your next drink?"
"No," he said. After a brief look, I turned around. There's always been men with this kind of unnecessarily courageous way in places like this. Booze, dancing, bed. Never infallible.
"Come on, baby, don't stretch it."
"Can you tell me what part of the word "no" you don't understand?" I kept staring at my phone in my bag while I was trying to talk to him. It was already 8:00. It's supposed to be apocalypse. I was here sipping my drink like I don't care if the world fell apart. I was going to scald him when the man next to me gently touched my own glass of booze and made a toast gesture, which suddenly appeared behind him. The guy who introduced himself as Valentino. Again, he was dressed in black as if there was mourning, in his harshest and most dangerous form.
