It was a bright sunny morning, and Princess Sofia was sleeping in bed when Violet came in and opened the blinds.

"Princess Sofia, time to wake up," said Violet.

Sofia opened her eyes and stretched. "Good morning, Violet," she yawned, rubbing her eyes.

"What would you like to wear today, m'lady?" Violet asked.

"My blue flying derby uniform please," said Sofia, getting up. "I can put it on after breakfast."

"Alrighty," said Violet. She took out Sofia's blue flying derby clothes and laid them out on her bed.

"Are you excited for the hootenanny, darling?" Violet asked.

"I'm more than excited," said Sofia as Violet helped her put on her fuzzy slippers. "I can't wait to dance with my friends."

"I'm sure," said Violet. "You'd better go and eat breakfast." There was going to be a highland hootenanny at Royal Prep, and Sofia was really excited to square-dance with her friends.

During breakfast, Sofia and her big brother and sister, James and Amber, were really excited for the Royal Prep hootenanny and do a lot of square-dancing with all their friends.

"This highland hootenanny is going to be lots of fun," said Amber. "I can't wait to square-dance."

"Me neither," said James.

After breakfast, Sofia put on her blue flying derby clothes, and she was ready for the hootenanny.

"Are you ready to go, Sofia?" James asked.

"I'm ready," said Sofia. Outside, Sofia, Amber, and James got into their flying coach, and away they went to Royal Prep.

Pretty soon, the trio arrived at Royal Prep. The hootenanny had only started, but there were already so many people, including their classmates and some graduates. Princesses Hildegard and Clio were awaiting Amber. Prince Zandar was awaiting James, and Sofia saw her best princely friend, Prince Hugo, happily dancing with his older brother, Axel.

Everybody was having fun square-dancing, and they were all dancing around like there was no tomorrow—until something bad happened. As the band, the Glass Slippers, played their song Keeping Promises No Matter What, Sofia and Hugo were having fun square-dancing arm in arm.

Just then, the whole thing ended abruptly—when the band was half-way through the song, Sofia's foot fell through the wooden dance floor, and she fell down. Everybody gasped in shock at this mishap, and the whole hootenanny had to stop.

"Sofia, are you okay?" Hugo asked.

Sofia tried to pull her foot out, but it was stuck, and her ankle hurt. "No, I hurt my ankle," she winced. Amber and James ran over.

"Maybe we can help," said James. He held Sofia under her arms, and Amber tried to pull her little sister's foot out. But it only hurt Sofia.

"Ouch, my ankle," wailed Sofia.

Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather quickly flew over to the damage.

"Everybody, off the dance floor please," Fauna instructed.

Everybody got off the dance floor immediately. The fairies could tell that Sofia's foot was pretty stuck in the dance floor very well, so they knew just what to do. Merryweather waved her wand and magically removed the broken pieces of wood. Fauna carefully removed Sofia's foot from the hole, and everybody applauded for the heroic deed the fairies had done.

Sadly, because the dance floor was broken, the hootenanny had to be cancelled. But luckily, there was going to be another hootenanny once there was a new dance floor.

Fauna was examining Sofia's injured ankle. As she carefully wrapped it up, she said, "Well, I'm afraid I must tell you the bad news, dear. You've sprained your ankle."

Amber and James felt very bad for their little sister.

"Guys, I'm so sorry I ruined the dance," said Sofia.

"You didn't ruin it, dear," said Fauna. "The dance floor is just old, and we just have to get it replaced before we can postpone the hootenanny."

Poor Sofia was very unhappy—she had been looking forward to the hootenanny for a few weeks, and now the whole thing is cancelled because the dance floor is broken. She felt like it was all her fault.
