Choke

I took a step forward. My stomach lurched forward. In front of me sat Lauren. Her arms were tethered with IVs and other tubes. A heart rate monitor sat next to her, a steady beep calling out.

"Y-you..."

Lauren murmured, trying to sit up. She blank slowly, her eyes glassy.

"No, no, no. Don't try to speak."

I told her, rushing forward. I held her arm gently, sitting down on the chair next to her bed. Paige sat next to me, placing her hand comfortingly on my thigh.

After a couple of minutes passed, the nurse knocked three times and came in.

"Sorry about the wait," She said, picking up Lauren's chart, "Let's see, ah, yes. Peptic Ulcer."

Paige and I looked to each other nervously.

"What does that mean?"

I asked, my voice trembling.

"Well, we found that it's an ulcer bleeding internally on the lining of her stomach. Now, we can go ahead and give you some antibiotics to close the ulcer. If that doesn't work in about 2 weeks, just give us a call and we'll cauterize it."

The nurse told us, setting the chart back down. She walked over to her computer and typed on it.

"W-What do you think, Paige?"

I asked, almost whispering.

"I think we should try the antibiotics first."

She responded, squeezing my thigh tighter.

"Okay, let's do that."

The nurse continued to type on her keyboard, leaving me wondering what fanfiction she was writing.

"Alright, so, I've sent a bottle to your pharmacy. Is it still Walgreens?"

I stuttered before answering, feeling my face grow hot.

"Uh, y-yes, it is."

Suddenly I felt as if Paige would laugh at my pharmacy. Then I remembered the urgency of Lauren's situation.

"Uh, so what's wrong with her?"

Paige asked, leaning forward slightly.

"Oh, we gave her some pain meds and some things for her lightheadedness and fainting."

She fainted. She didn't died. Just fainted. Just. Fainted.

Have you ever said a word so much it starts to sound weird? Fainted... Fainted... Fainted...

I held Lauren in my arms.

The car lurched back and forth. Poor Lauren, she must have been in so much pain. Why did she not tell anyone? I decided to wait until she was healthy to ask her all my questions.

Paige pulled up along the driveway of the pack house. Several pack members ran up to the car, asking muffled questions. Paige opened the door, a momentary chaos until she shut it. She opened the back door, helping Sleepy Lauren and I out. We walked hurriedly to the house, locking the doors behind us. We walked up the stairs slowly, Lauren almost falling down three times.

Paige opened the door to our room, pulling back blankets on Lauren's bed. I helped her down, covering her with blankets. She thrust her arm out, hitting me gently in the stomach. I grabbed her hand, squeezing it gently.

"I'm sorry."

Lauren muttered, looking into my eyes with heavy eyelids.

"It's alright. I know what it's like to be in denial."

I tell her, sitting next to her.

"Will you sleep next to me?"

She asks the both of us, looking between us, head rolling.

"Of course, Ren."

Paige whispers. She pushes the two beds together. She scooches Lauren into the middle, sitting next to her.

"Normally it's me in the middle, baby."

I tease her, putting my index finger on the base of her nose. She smiled sleepily, turning herself toward Paige. Paige kissed her gently on her forehead, patting her shoulder. I sidled up next to her, placing my hands around her waist. She moaned tiredly, backing up against me. I pushed my head up.

"Damn, is she always horny?"

I asked, trying not to laugh.

"Basically."

She responded. I could tell she was trying not to laugh as well. I brushed her hair into a neat bundle, kissing her neck gently. I wasn't tired, but I didn't want Lauren to feel like she was unloved.

"Paige, do you wanna go get the antibiotics, or should your parents?"

I asked her. Paige could probably hear how much I didn't want her to leave. For Lauren's sake, obviously. Definitely not because I want her near me. Totally not because I still feel those sparks shivering down my spine whenever we touch. Speaking of the devil -- Well, would it technically be devils? -- Their parents appeared. They knocked twice and opened the door, waiting for no answer.

Bold of you to assume I'm not topping Paige into oblivion when you knocked, but you do you.

"Oh, poor baby."

Their mom said, making me realize I can't remember the last time my own mother said that to me. I pushed myself away from Lauren, standing quickly.

"Oh, don't let us disturb you."

She told us, holding my shoulders gently.

"How are you feeling, Ren?"

Their dad asked. I backed up against the wall uncomfortably. They sat next to her, pushing her hair away from her eyes. Lauren looked up at them and half-heartedly smiled.

"Hey, mom, dad. I'm feeling... better than I was two days ago."

"How did you keep that pain from everyone?"

"Oh, it was easy. I just focused on fighting and thought of Mara and Paige when things got bad."

Lauren said, glancing at me for just a second. Their mom made an 'aww' and slipped her arm around their dad's.

"Did they give you anything? For the pain?"

Their dad asked. I twiddled my thumbs impatiently. Please, just leave. Your daughter is fine. I want to say that to them, but they probably already don't like me, I think.

"Yeah, some pain meds and some uh, antibiotics. Those are at Walgreens though, so I haven't taken any yet."

"The one on Main?" Her mom asked, continuing when Paige and Lauren nodded, "We'll go get them now."

"And no training until the doctor says you're all better!"

Their father yelled as the door was swung closed.

The three of us breathed a heavy sigh out as silence fell once more.

"I love my mom, but, Jesus. She's a lot sometimes."

Lauren murmured, pushing her hair back to where it was.

"I feel you, baby."

I said, sitting next to her again. I laid against her, feeling sensations go down my spine again. If I could choose between anything on earth, and this feeling, I'd choose this feeling. This is heaven.

Authors note: Oh my god, topping someone into oblivion is my favorite thing I've ever written. I've reached my height. Goodbye, everyone, it's downhill from here.
