When I was Young

This is a poem I had to write for my English class. I seem to be posting assignments a lot recently... Please let me know what you think :)

When I was younger, I liked to rhyme

But now that I’m here, I don’t have the time

When I was younger, my future was bright

And now that I’m older, I don’t see the light

I used to believe in magic, back in the day

But there’s nothing mystical about the world today

Every day is a scary adventure

And I’m not sure if I can continue with this torture

Because when I was young, I was filled with joy

But I now realize I’m just the world’s toy

(And I’m sorry, it’s true,

But you’re just a toy too)

When I was young, the world quaked at my feet

Now I’m 17 and I don’t dare cross the street

But when we were young, we were filled with dreams

Now here we are, surrounded by screams
