Moony?

The Map

George slammed an old piece of paper down in front of Harry, out of breath and staring at him in awe. 

"What? What is this, are you guys okay?"

"Harry, you are the son of one of the greatest pranksters of all time." George started

"He is our idol, taught us everything we know." Fred finished

Harry looked at them as though he thought they'd lost it.

"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." at Fred's words and a tap of his wand, the piece of paper started expanding and writing started forming on the paper, giving both Harry and Ginny flashbacks of a time neither one of them wanted to remember.

Ginny stood up and walked over towards Hermione and sat in between her and Ron, she didn't want to make a scene, but seeing the ink behave just as it had in Riddle's diary made her want to throw up.

"Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are proud to present the Marauders' Map?" Harry read aloud. "My dad made this?" 

The twins nodded eagerly, "We found it in Filch's office our first year,"

"It was marked Highly Dangerous, obviously, it sparked our interest."

"We took it to our dorm and tried to figure out how to get it to reveal its secrets."

"We had tried everything to get it to open, and once we were just about to give up,"

"The map started trying to give us hints"

"Eventually, we got it to open by saying,"

"We solemnly swear that we are up to no good" they finished together

"So my dad taught you everything you know... with a map?" Harry looked as though they were trying to convince him that Percy was the Queen. The twins both scoffed, apparently offended. 

"Oh brother you offend us greatly"

"This is not just a map."

"This, dear Harry, is the greatest map of all time"

"It shows all of the secret rooms and passageways in and around Hogwarts."

"And it shows where everybody is and what they're doing every second"

"of every day"

"So long as they're within the range of the map"

Harry blinked at them then tackled them both in a hug. "That is so cool! I didn't know my dad did things like that! Everyone always talks about the way he acted with Voldemort, never about how he was at school! Thank you, guys, for showing me this."

"You can keep it, Harry."

"We've got the entire thing memorized by now"

"Use it well"

"Don't get caught"

They both hugged Harry individually and then went back to their seats

"Oh! and to close it, just point your wand at it and say "Mischief Managed" George added as he sat down. Harry did so and sat back down as well.  

The rest of the table had watched the interaction in awe. None of them had ever seen the twins so excited before. 

"Fred, George," Percy started, "You do realize that one of your 'idols' has just escaped a life sentence in azkaban, and is now trying to kill Harry, right?" 

The twins shared a look, "Well the map is the marauders 16 year old selves preserved in the map. So unless Black was already supporting you-know-who at 16-"

"-Then the padfoot in the map is harmless."

"Especially since he doesn't even know that Harry exists-"

"-or, he doesn't know that Harry is James and Lily Potter's son at least."

Percy looked at the twins and shrugged. Ginny, on the other hand looked as though she was going to be sick.

"Harry." she said, "Its a paper, that can think for itself, and has four 16 year old boys preserved as memories in it." Harry understood what she was trying to say.

"Gin," Harry said flipping the map in his hand over and over, "I don't think anything my own father made could be dangerous."

Ginny stood up, pushing her chair back rather aggressively, startling both Hermione and Ron, "Yeah well you didn't think that a diary that wrote back to you was dangerous but it almost ended up killing both of us!" She grabbed her book and stomped upstairs.

"I'm going to go make sure she's okay." Hermione said, and she went upstairs. 

Harry looked down at his hands, "I suppose I should have realized that it might upset her." 

"Nah mate, She's paranoid about everything nowadays, she rarely even touches magical books anymore. Lucky for her Hermione always brings and endless supply of muggle ones." Ron reassured him.

Harry nodded. "What happened last year anyway Harry? I've only heard the rumors, and Ginny won't tell us anything." George asked, leaning his head on his fist.

"Well if Ginny doesn't want you to know then I probably shouldn't tell you, she's already mad enough. But I told Ron everything, so he can tell you." Harry folded the map up and put it in his pocket, "Thanks for this guys." he said, and got up to take his plate to the kitchen.
