Sirius was pretty sure he was in love with Remus.

He'd known this for quite some time, for about a year and a half, though he never really accepted it until a few months ago.

There weren't many gay kids at Hogwarts that were as open with their relationships as Sirius and Remus were. Probably they were too afraid of what other students would say (and Sirius and Remus were certainly no strangers to strange looks and homophobic jeers). But between the two Gryffindors, there was nothing braver than being unapologetically themselves, about being who they truly are for the whole school to see.

Sirius thought about this as he remained transfixed upon Remus's perfect face while they were supposed to be studying in the library. Really, Remus was trying not to blush as Sirius whispered to him all the things he loved about him.

"Your eyes and your face and the annoying way you actually care about your academics..."

Remus turned a page of his textbook. "You could learn a thing or two from me, mister. I know you're borderline failing Defense Against the Dark Arts. And that class is impossible to fail."

"I don't care," swooned Sirius. "I just want to look at you all day."

Sirius reached up a brushed his thumb under Remus's chin, where there were a few hints of peach fuzz. Add that to another thing on Sirius's list.

Remus blushed violently and told Sirius to shut up, that he should be focusing on his schoolwork, yadda yadda yadda. It went in one ear and out the other with his boyfriend.

"Remus?"

He turned to Sirius. "Yeah?"

"What would you say if I said I love you?" Sirius had his head resting on his arms on the table, smiling sleepily.

"I --"

"Like, love-love you."

"Yes, I'm aware, Sirius."

"Don't be an ass and answer the question."

Remus sighed and dramatically rolled his eyes. Sirius was a drama queen, sure, but Remus certainly had his moments too.

"I ... Well, I would say that ... uh..."

"Yeah?" Sirius's eyes were hopeful and irrevocably in love.

"Well, maybe ... that I..." Remus wiped his forehead, suddenly hot. It wasn't the temperature in the library, but the weight of Sirius's gaze on him and the way Remus was too nervous to get out his answer.

Remus took a deep breath and looked straight into his boyfriend's eyes. "I would say that I love you too."

Sirius threw his hands around Remus's neck, practically jumping into his lap, and kissed him as if the world was about to end. Remus was apprehensive at first, worrying that they would be seen -- or heard -- but soon he melted under Sirius's touch, skin alive and burning with that fiery feeling of anticipation, of something new to come.

They kissed for a while before Remus had to put his foot down and tell Sirius to stop before they wouldn't be able to.

Sirius gave him a last peck on the lips, and returned to his seat, face aglow. And just in time too, because soon Professor McGonagall sauntered over to the boys' table and told them sternly, "Professor Dippet would like to see you in his office, Mr. Black. Please follow me at once."

Sirius's smile dropped the way rain falls from the sky. Remus sensed his change in attitude and laced his fingers with Sirius's under the table, communicating, It's going to be okay.
