Selective muteness amongst sky kids is common, but not universal. They tend not to speak much between themselves, although their language does exist and can be used, even if not as much.

Sky kids are capable of mimicking and using sounds of their surroundings to communicate, preferably those of animals they are familiar with, using different tones of voice and lengths of sound to pass around messages of high importance. It is common for them, however, to sometimes use random sounds they know instead of actually talking in the “honk language”, as not to have the need of building sentences while crying for attention at the same time. Much like human screams, these little honks have no meaning.

During their first arrival down to the sky world, many did not know how to talk with any other creatures besides themselves, although they came to learn common language used by spirits over time and also how to read the alphabet used by the Elders to write. It is a small issue, however, that many of these children end up mixing both, creating a half Elder, half Spiritual language that can more easily define their spoken habits.
