We move into our new house a couple of days before the start of senior year in Seattle. The whole way there my dad was just chatting about how good our new house will be and how it will be a good opportunity for me to make new friends.
"How do you know how good our new house will be if you've never actually been to it?" I ask him.
"I just have this great feeling." He exclaims. "Here it is!"
We pull up to a semi large, old brick house. From what I can tell the house has two levels and possibly a basement. The front door of the house is a plain white, as are the shutters around all the windows I can see. It's a nice a house I will admit. I step out of the car to see the moving van pull up behind us. I walk up the front door whilst my dad and mom help the movers. The inside of the house is spacey and old, with wooden floor boards that creak at certain areas. The stairs to the upstairs are front and center when you walk into the house and besides it is a hallway I assume leads to the dining room or kitchen. I look to the left to observe what will most likely be our living room when a mover comes into the house with a box of things followed by my dad.
"Go grab your stuff and put it into what room you would like upstairs." He gasps, out of breath.
I rush out of the house to the moving van and grab a box labeled with my name. I head upstairs and try to memorize what steps creak and which don't. The upstairs has several rooms, more than what we need honestly. I decide to pick one all the way on the right side of the house, with a window I can easily sneak in and out of. I head back downstairs to help take out more of the movers stuff and before we know it, everything is in our new house.
"Go check out and get situated in your new room, sweetie. Your dad and I will take care of most of this down here. When we're done or need a break, we'll call you down for dinner." My mother tells me and I just nod.
Upstairs in my room, I organize where my shelves will be and bed. I decide to put my one shelf by the window and my bed on the opposite side, opposite corner. I then put my wooden nightstand right next to my bed side and place my lamp on top. I grab my sheet and blankets for my bed and situated them so they look good. I lift up my mattress and place my handy dandy knife under it, because let's be honest, would you really look under the mattress? I'm situating everything else in my room when my mom calls me down for dinner.
I walk downstairs and down the hallway by the stairs into the kitchen. My mom is standing by the island with my dad no where in sight. The countertops are a white granite and super smooth; the cabinets are a light brown. We have a stove with four burners and a dishwasher, something we never had before.
"How do you like the house? Your dad just went to pick up some fast food, we'll go shopping tomorrow."
"It's nice, like really nice." I say and grace my hand over the island top. "I got my room all situated how I wanted it and it looks like you're doing good down here too."
"Yup, we set the TV up and are going to finish the dining room before we go to sleep tonight." As she says that my dad walks into the room with some McDonald's. We all get our food and go to watch some TV in the living room.
"...The police is referring to them as the River Killer, since they dump their victims into the river or body of water after brutally killing them. The police have no idea who the killer is since there is little evidence..." The reporter on the screen trails off. I smile to myself but quickly turn it into a concerning look. I'm to smart for them, I'm never gonna get caught...
"Good thing we got out of there when we did," My dad says as he finishes his dinner. We all finish and by that time its roughly 7 pm.
"I'm gonna go upstairs to shower and get ready for bed," I say and stand up to throw away the plates.
"Okay, goodnight Max." My mom and dad tell me.
I grab some boxers and shorts to sleep in since I tend to sleep shirtless, sometimes just in boxers and head to the bathroom. I let the warm shower water overtake my body as I rinse out the soap out of my black hair. I step out of the shower into a steamy like sauna. I wipe down the mirror and run my fingers through my wet hair and look at myself. I pierced my right ear when I was younger without my parents permission but they let it slide. I dry myself off and put on my clothes for the night. I head back into my room but don't go to sleep, instead I walk over to the window and see how far the drop is.
"Okay, I might have to get a pull out ladder for this..." I mutter to myself and peer out the window. The drop is about twenty to twenty-five feet, enough to break something if I land just right. I hear my parents come up to bed and go lay in mine. I put on some music in my headphones to help me fall asleep, and soon enough I do.
