So, What Was That?

You were standing in line for the cinema. You were so excited because you finally had enough money to go see a film. You had wanted to see one for years, but you never got the opportunity.

Your excitement faded into weariness as you watched what was unfolding in front of you. A skinny, blonde man? Boy? Was picking a fight with two men that practically towered over him. There was no way the little guy was gonna get out of this unscathed.

You watched as he got shoved to the ground. Just before they could start really beating on him, you stepped in.

"Why don't you guys just leave him alone?" You shouted over to them. Their heads snapped in your direction, and one of them made his way over to you.

He spoke with a venom in his voice, "This has nothing to do with you. Mind your own business. Wouldn't want to have to hit a girl and ruin that pretty face of yours." As he spoke his hands traveled to your waist and went way too far south.

That was all it took for you to send a clean punch to his nose, effectively breaking it. The other man came running up to you and you swiftly swept his leg and harshly stomped on his stomach with your high heel.

The man with the broken nose was trying to stem the bleeding when he said, "c'mon man, let's just go." They scrambled off, and you hoped you would never have to see them again.

You took a deep breath and walked over to the skinny man, who was still sitting on the floor. His eyes were full of shock and amazement at what had just occurred.

"Hey, are you alright," you trailed off to let him fill in his name.

"Steve, Steve Rogers, ma'am." He said politely.

"Are you alright, Steve?" You asked, genuinely concerned as he looked like he could be blown away by the wind any minute.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine, miss,"

"(Y/N)"

"I'm just fine, (Y/N), Thank you."

Suddenly you heard a new voice coming from behind you, "What you did to those guys was pretty badass, don't ya think Stevie?" He asked in a silky smooth voice.

You looked up at him, only to come face to face with the most beautiful man you had ever seen.

"Yeah, it was pretty awesome."

That was how you met Bucky Barnes.

Ever since then, the three of you guys were practically joined at the hips. As your friendship with them grew, so did your crush on Bucky. It was no use though, with all the women in Brooklyn falling head over heels in love with him, there was no way he would pick you.

After moving to their shared apartment after losing your job, you found it unbearably hard to not fall hopelessly in love with him.

It had been years since you fist met Steve and Bucky, and you wouldn't imagine life any other way. You did always hate going dancing with them though.

Tonight, Bucky decided that the three of you would go dancing together, not that any of you would end the night anywhere near each other.

Stave always felt out of place and went home early, Bucky always found a girl to fall in love with him for the night, and you actually loved dancing. It was just so hard to do it when you never felt like you had the right partner.

That left you sitting at the bar, watching happy couples twirl around the dance floor. To your right, a man walked up to the bar, very obviously eyeing you.

"How about a drink, sugar?" You cringed at him and the fact that he thought it was ok to call you sugar.

"I'm perfectly fine, thank you." You said in hopes that he would give up, but knowing deep down that he wouldn't.

"C'mon doll face, just one drink." He said, roughly gripping your shoulder.

Then out of nowhere, your knight in shining armor, Bucky, arrived at the scene.

He wrapped his arm around your waist as he loudly stated, "Sorry I'm late, doll." Just before kissing you.

You pulled away in shock. Did the Bucky Barnes just kiss you? Were you dreaming?

The guy at the bar huffed and walked away.

Bucky looked around for a second before asking, "Where's Steve?"

You rolled your eyes, acutely aware of his arm still around your waist. "He left early. Always does."

Bucky was quick to take notice of your dampened mood, while still being completely oblivious to the cause. "Maybe you should head home too, (Y/N), don't want any more of that happening to ya."

You sighed softly before half joking, "You're not gonna walk me home, Buck?"

"I know you can take care of yourself, (Y/N)." He stated, which was completely contradictory to the reason he was having you go home in the first place, but you let it slide, not having the energy to fight him about it.

"Ok then, I guess I'll see you later." You sighed before beginning the walk back to the apartment.

Sure enough, Bucky brought home another girl, and you could hear everything.

It was a couple of days later when you found it was just you and Bucky in the apartment. You decided that if you didn't confront him about it now, you never would.

You were both sitting on the sofa when you asked, "So, what was that about, Bucky?"

He looked up at you with a bewildered expression. "What are we talkin' about, doll?"

Your heart melted at the nickname, but nevertheless, you had to stay strong. "At the dance hall, what was that?"

His eyes widened in realization. "I was just tryin' to get him off your back is all."

"Why did you have to kiss me, though, Buck?" Your voice dropped to barely a whisper.

His brows furrowed at your words, as if strategically planning what he was about to say.

"I'm so sorry, doll, I've just wanted to do that for so long, and I thought that would be my opportunity, but clearly I misjudged." He admitted.

Your face softened, but your words remained firm,"Then why go find another girl? That sure does send some mixed signals, Bucky."

Regret flooded his face before he spoke, "I know, (Y/N), I do, but I just couldn't stop thinking of the look on your face, and I felt like such a fat-head for thinking you would want to kiss me."

Your eyes widened at his words, "I do want to kiss you, Buck."

He smiled brightly at you before connecting his lips to yours. This time was far different from the last. It felt like an electric surge was coursing through your body.

You hands found his face, pulling him impossibly closer, as his hands firmly gripped your hips.

You pulled away as the need for air grew stronger, both of you gasping for air.

"The only dame I'm gonna be bringing home from now on is you, sugar." He remarked, making you smile.

"I can get on board with that." You mused, before pulling him in for another perfect kiss.
