"Why are you soaked?" I let him in. "Wait. Stay right there." I speed walk to my bathroom and grab a towel. Riley and Maya were off at work. So it was just me home right now. Obviously Lucas knew this and for some reason just wanted to talk to me. But run in the rain to see me? It made no sense.
I come back and give it to him. "I can throw your shoes in the dryer?" I offer. "No I shouldn't be long.." I interrupted him right then and there. "Woah there buckaroo. Even if you are going to leave soon I don't want you just staying drenched and possibly getting a cold. You can shower in my bathroom and I'll dry your clothes while your in there. I'll lend you an uber to get home. Okay?" He just looks at me. "Please?" I ask. He just nods and heads in the bathroom. He passes me his drenched clothes through a crack in the door and I first spun them in the washer to get the extra water out then put it in the dryer. I just sat by the the machines and waited. Why was he here in such a rush? Did I completely interrupt him from why he was even here? Oh god I'm such an idiot! After a few minutes I check on his clothes and they were dry. Then I placed his shoes in the holder in the dryer and left them in there. I folded the clothes up and entered my room again. I knock on the door and hear the shower still on. "Your clothes will be on my bed ok?"
"Alright." He calls from my shower. I had waited in the living room by the windows. We had an area of living room facing a television and a smaller area to lounge by the windows. I sat in the beanbag we had and just scrolled through tiktok. I notice movement in the corner of my eye to see Lucas clean and dry. "Sorry I interrupted you and went in protective mode." I say as he walked towards me. He sat beside me in another chair. "Spencer first I just wanted to say I'm really happy you're back." He says. I smiled, "Yea, me too. It was so lonely and unsettling. I wasn't happy. With my depression and anxiety it became overwhelming and I looked for other things to keep me occupied." I open up. He just gave a comforting smile, "Spence, we all really missed you and just hoped you missed us back." He says. "Of course! I was just so busy playing their game that I didn't even take the time to focus on myself." I answered. The chair Lucas sat in was raised higher than the beanbag so I just leaned my head on his leg. "I'm so thankful to be able to come back and have my friends back together." I say. "It was so different and weird when you left." He says while putting his hand on my shoulder. We just sat there for a moment. "Anyone seeing anyone romantically since i've been gone?" I ask making small talk. "I just got out of a long relationship. She wasn't big on the whole 'staying loyal' thing. So I've been on my own for a couple months. Farkle dated Smackle dated for a while but she left for school. Riley and Charlie were on and off with school but now they're better I believe and Maya hasn't been much of a dater." He says catching me up. "I'm sorry about your ex." I say trying to comfort him. "It's fine. I've done my grieving." He shrugs off. I lean off of him and turn my beanbag to me directly in front of his chair. "Well I've dated some people in secret. It's hard but manageable when everyone is in your face wanting the deets. You'll know this name, Demi Lovato and I talked for a while. But it was just talking. And guys will be guys. For some reason their a lot worse when their ego is through the roof." I say. He chuckled, "Well now you're here and don't have to hide anymore." He says. "Well internet wise there will still be people wanting the deets but no more paparazzi for a while. No more cameos, no more interviews, just my camera, my studio, and myself." I say with a sigh. "Just like you've always wanted." He says.
We sat for a minute but it never became clear why he walked in the rain to see me. "Huckleberry, I'd really appreciate it if you really told me why you walked in the pouring rain to come see me." I practically begged. "Oh man, haven't heard that name in a while." He leaned back and laughed. I just smile and looked at him waiting for an answer. He leaned his elbows on his knees causing him to get just a tad closer to me who was sitting right in front of his chair. "Why didn't you give us a chance?" He asked. It caught me off guard. "We made the friendship long distance why couldn't we have worked out a relationship?" He asked. "Lucas we were friends. The things we did in middle school and our conversations throughout high school were nice. I needed a friend and I appreciated you. But I wasn't in the place to juggle the attention, a long distance relationship, the work, and my mental state all in one go." I said. "I wasn't ready. Farkle wanted the same thing and I told him the same thing." I confessed. "We talked about it I just wondered why I never got the answer." He says. "You didn't ask." I said sarcastically. We both chuckled under our breath. "But you're home now." He points out. "Yea Im home now."After a while of talking and laughing Lucas decided it was time to head back to his place. I grabbed his shoes from the dryer and he was on his way. about 10 minutes go by and Maya walks in. "Hey pumpkin." She says and sits next to me. "How's work? You on a break?" I ask. "Yeaaa..just an hour and I was thinking about making that frozen pizza boats we have." She says. "Go for it. But put one in for me too." I say. She stands up. "Of course my little munchkin." She says and starts to prep the pizza. I watch as the throws it in the oven. "Lucas just came by." I say. "What'd he want?" She asks. "Just to talk. How's the group been since I've been gone?" I asked. "Well we keep up with each other. But now we're obviously seeing each other a lot more since you've been back." She leaned on the counter looking at me. "Without you we didn't really have our rock. So we did the best we could." She shrugs. "I feel bad about how much I affected everyone with me disappearing. But it was hell on my end too. Never having anyone. Always being in the eye of the public. It was rough." I say to her. "Well now you have your family and we'll be here every step of the way."
