I wake up to the sound of an air horn and people jumping on my bed. "Its your birthday! Its your birthday!" They shout. I groan and roll over.
"You could have let me sleep in on my birthday and not blast horns in my ears," I complain.
They all laugh. Diana (one of my favorite worker) walks over and shoos them away.
"Happy birthday Mali!" She says. ''Do you remember what today is?''
''My birthday, duh!"
''No,'' she replies,''Not just your birthday. Your SIXTEENTH birthday. You get to open the letter!"
I groan and roll my eyes. ''I could've read the letter yesterday,'' I laugh,''You told me I could read it the day you found it, but I suppose today is the day.'' I have a feeling that everyone wants me to read it because their curious, not because they want me to know about my parents.
I get up and tell Diana I'll be out in a little bit. I get dresses and brush my hair. I run down the stairs to the dining area for breakfast and find waffles, bacon, and hashbrowns in my spot. This is rare. Normally it's cereal or oatmeal. I sit down and slowly eat my breakfast enjoying every bite. Then I go to the main area where everyone else is. As I walk in it gets quiet with whispers here and there. I'm sure its about me reading my note.
I walk over to Diana and another worker named Stacy. Don't get me wrong, I like Stacy, but she can be really babying and I don't like being treated like a two year old.
Standing next to them are my two best friends Anabelle (Bella) and Elizabeth (Lizzy or Liz). "Are you ready to read the letter?" They ask and I'm not sure I am but I'm as ready as I'm gonna get.
''Ready as I'll ever be!'' I smile. They smile right back.
"OK let's start reading!" They shout.
