As I walked with a pocket knife in my hand, inching forward, trying to calm myself, a million thoughts ran through my mind. Primarily that I was going to die. So far I was doing good. In fact I had made it a whole nine floors without any encounters with monsters. That streak was instantly broken when I hit the tenth floor.
I slowly moved forward. With every step I took, I made sure my breathing aligned with every apocalyptic horror movie I had ever seen. Keep it steady so I can stay calm, but also keep it soft so anything near wouldn't be able to hear me. I glanced at the number on the door as I passed. 1015. Exactly one more floor to go. As I advance forward, I hear a faint growling in the distance. I stopped dead in my tracks. What was that? I contemplated what my next move would be. Would I continue walking or wait this thing out? The thing was, I didn't have time to wait it out. I'd been gone for about three hours and I would have liked to get back at a reasonable time so people wouldn't think I was dead. I needed to continue. I made my way down the corridor. As I was about to round the corner, a hand reached out and held the wall. I ducked and missed it by a few centimeters. But here's the thing, it wasn't a regular hand: it was a claw. It's nails were sharp, sharp enough to leave marks in the wall. The skin looked like cement. It was hard and rusty. I was shaking. I put my hand over my mouth to stop myself from screaming, though I wasn't sure what the use was. Once it turned round the corner, it would see me, and I'd be done for. A body emerged and I had to focuse on every aspect of my body not to panic. The body looked exactly like the hand. Hard as cement. But what stood out to me the most was this thing's head. It didn't have one. The head had been sliced in half so you could see right inside. Gross. I bit my tongue to stop myself from gagging.
"I can't see," the monster complained.
I made mistake of stabbing it in the leg with my pocket knife. Was it out of instinct or stupidity? I didn't know. But the moment I did it, I regretted it instantly. The monster bellowed with rage. It's hand lashed out and missed my shoulder very narrowly. I tried moving away, but again, I had no luck. The monster grabbed my leg and I struggled to break free from its grip. I tired slashing, but there's only so much you can do with a pocket knife. I was going to die for sure. Might as well give up and let this thing eat me. That's when I thought of something. What's something my dad once told me? When you lose one of your senses, the others became enhanced. I knew this occurred in humans, but was it the same for monsters? I was going to do something and I prayed to whoever was listening that this went well or else I would die. I took a coin out of my pocket, as best as I could, and threw as far as possible. For a scary moment, nothing happened. The monster just kept grabbing onto my leg. But then, it dropped me. Hesitantly, it turned toward the sound. Slowly, it started walking.
"I can't see," it kept repeating. The whole time I stayed as still as possible. Once I was sure it was gone, I breathed a sigh of relief. Fuck. That was close. Way to close. I was trembling. This thing had left a cut in my leg. A deep cut. I was now infected and in no time I would turn into one of those ugly things. Fuck me. Fuck my life. Fuck everything. I felt like just staying there, because in my mind becoming a monster's meal was better than turning into one. Shut up, I tell myself. You came up here for a reason, now you have to finish it. I tore off a piece of my shirt and wrapped it around my leg, to hopefully stop the bleeding. Still shaking with fear, I gathered myself and continued waking.1115. I had made it. I whipped out the key that Eunhyuk had given me before I left and opened the apartment. I walked inside and closed the door behind me. It looked exactly like mine expect it wasn't. I made my way through the room. Suddenly someone came from behind a corner and pointed a taser at me. I held hands up.
"Stop! Intruder!" they yelled.
"Eunyu, it's me Haena," I said . I was scared I would get tased which was something I did not want to experience in my lifetime. Once she had finally made sense of her surroundings, she lowered the taser. She looked at me with suspicion, like I was lying, which I didn't really understand cause there's no way I could be anybody other than Haena.
