They can't be seen, they can't be sensed.
Only creatures as dark as they are can see how they wander around in the woods, in small towns, in the seas and carefully, intently choose new souls to claim.
But there are few chosen ones, few cursed children that can witness the horrific view of demons, and they know it. They know it all.
And the worst part?
Those creatures toy with the prey they are about to steal. They know they are watching, they know their dread, and yet — what they do is smile, crawl closer to them, slide under their beds, hide in closets to make them scream, tremble in fear and call for parents to help. They say a scared soul is the sweetest, the most delicious of all. When the dread is so big, trepidation consumes the whole mind and leaks to the depth of the soul — this is the delicacy for them.
There is no way to hide from them. Blankets won't help. Not even a parent that checks under the bed is able to hold back the monster that lurks in the shadow, awaiting the perfect moment to feast on a soul, leaving the only material body of a child whose lungs stopped breathing and heart couldn't beat anymore.
