Gemini was a ticking time bomb to be around.
The teenager had always been categorized as a short fuse, but with all the odds stacked against her this year, she had dexterously transformed into a whirlwind of reckless defiance and uncontrollable fury. Who, after all, had the audacity to place blame on her? Her mother had managed to escape a "highly secure" prison, society had turned their once-adoring gazes into judgmental stares, and she had recently been condemned to remain on school grounds, forbidden from visiting the nearby village of Hogsmeade. So, it was no surprise when another load of pent-up anger burst forth, colliding with her hovering friend.
"Harry, Love, please refrain from gazing at me. Though I initially found it flattering, it has now become a bit unnerving to catch you in the act so frequently," Gemini snapped, a fierce glare aimed at the emerald-eyed boy from her spot in the bustling common room. Yet, instead of the expected sputtering response, Harry Potter narrowed his eyes, his piercing stare unwavering. "Well, excuse me," he retorted, a hint of indignation creeping into his voice. "As I'm not a psychic, knowing when your next disappearance might occur is beyond my reach. Far be it for me to look out for you!"
An acrimonious chuckle escaped Gemini's lips, the sound laced with disbelief. "Harry Potter, there's a sizable difference between looking out for someone and stalking them!" she shrieked, her voice rising above the cheerful chatter of the common room.
"I am not stalking you," he argued, his tone insistent. "I'm simply making sure you don't vanish without a trace for another twenty-four hours... again!" Gemini let out a snort once his words registered. "You're so bloody dramatic! I was on school grounds, taking some time to clear my mind for a mere three hours at most. Besides, that was two weeks ago! Let it go." He huffed, crossing his arms defiantly as his eyes darted to where Hermione and Ron had just descended from the winding stairway.
"You two aren't going to kill each other while we're gone... are you?" Hermione queried, exchanging a cautious glance with Ron, who looked equally concerned. "No promises," Gemini grumbled, her glare still set firmly on the Boy-Who-Lived. Clearing her throat, Hermione broke the tension in the air, her voice brightening. "Well, we'll bring you both lots of sweets back from Honeydukes. So, I'd advise you to stay alive." Ron, his freckled face awkward, chimed in enthusiastically, "Yeah, loads of sweets. I'll even nab some extra chocolate frogs for you, Gem."
Gemini felt her heart warm just a touch, a flicker of gratitude sparking within her. It was nice to know that Hermione and Ron had set aside their petty squabble over Crookshanks in light of the challenges their friend was facing. "Don't worry about me," she reassured them with a slight smile. "I'll be right here, waiting for you at the feast, and you'll tell me all about your wonderful day. Plus, amidst my current annoyance with him, I have Harry to keep me company. I wouldn't want to be stuck in this castle with anyone else."
The corner of Harry's mouth turned upward, a subtle smile gracing his features. She didn't mind spending time with him. In an offhanded tone that belied the warmth in his heart, Harry confirmed her statement. "Yeah, don't worry about us. We'll be fine. Now, let us walk you to the entrance hall."
As they accompanied Ron and Hermione down the familiar corridors, their enjoyable chatter suddenly did not go unnoticed. "Staying here, Potter? What about you, Black? I bet you're scared of passing the Dementors," jeered Draco Malfoy, his voice dripping with mockery as he stood in line with his brutish companions, Crabbe and Goyle.
Gemini couldn't stop herself from laughing, her voice loud and unapologetic. "Oi, Malfoy! Nothing scares me and that's a well-known fact. You're just not pretty enough to be this stupid, so shut the hell up." Harry, secretly proud of her fierce retort, lifted her into his arms, declaring, "Merlin, Gemini. Why do you always have to start a fight? Just ignore the ferret! He isn't worth our time."
