Chapter 10: Betrayal

Killic met with the other five officials from the kingdoms with news regarding the fire at the Redstone Academy and Emmilia's attempt to take his life the next day when the time had just passed noon.

Flixii: "No, it can't be true. Emmilia would never do such a thing, Sir Killic."

Killic: "It is hard to believe myself, Sir Flixii, but I know I was not dreaming. Had it not been for the materials my team had been working on, I wouldn't be here today."

Haden: "But why? Why would she, in her right mind, do this?"

Killic: "My only guess is that she was seeking justice, but could not find anyone to exact her judgement on. When she heard that the corrupted soldiers in my kingdom were working with the Unyielding Legion she probably pinned the blame on me. I tried to reason with her, I really did, but she would not listen."

Flixii: "What happened to her?"

Killic: "She fled after doing the damage. I really do feel sorry for her. If I was in her shoes, being faced by a threat that sought to destroy my people's identity, I would have found someone to attack as well."

Gamah: "This will not stand. Such an act of terrorism cannot go unanswered. We must send a message to the Ardoni that we will not tolerate this."

Halia: "I agree. But how can we make a statement when they have Songs to protect themselves?"

Killic: "As much as it pains me, I have had the most brilliant scientists of my kingdom work on some new protective measures that may be used. They were originally developed to fight against the remaining Zuldoris, but if the Ardoni have betrayed us then they could be used against them."

Haden: "Woah, hang on a second, the Ardoni didn't betray us."

Killic: "Sir Haden, I know you have bonds with the Ardoni, but you must face reality. Emmilia Prime, one of the Ardoni's leading figures, misdirected her anger and grievances and endangered the lives of all the workers in the Academy. This was an act of war. Since Emmilia has not turned herself in, she is considered an enemy of Conchord. I have come up with an elite team of brave people to hunt her and any that protect her: The Color Balance."

Haden: "I won't go through with this."

Killic: "I know, which is why I have made the difficult decision to demote you. You will no longer serve as Northwind official."

Haden: "What?"

Killic: "Since you don't have someone to take your place, I will now take care of all affairs concerning the kingdom and the military. Yes, we have decided to demote your wife as well."

Haden: "You can't do that!"

Killic: "I'm afraid I have to. You see, the council put it to a vote, and it seems we have the majority."

Haden turned to Flixii, betrayed.

Flixii: "Haden, I had nothing to do with this, I swear."

Killic: "Which is why you're also demoted. Please know that it pains me greatly to see you two relieved of your offices. And seeing as though you're unfortunately no longer government officials, I can no longer have you two listen to these affairs. Guards!"

Armored Conchord soldiers entered the room.

Killic: "Please kindly escort these gentlemen out. They have been relieved of their positions and are now trespassing in our confidential meeting."
