Damn it. This couldn't be happening. Not now. Not when he was so close. Not when he still hadn't fulfilled Erwin's final order.
But despite his defiance, Levi couldn't deny that he was dying.
He was lying on his back atop the soft, grassy earth. Pain wracked his body where it was broken in several places, broken beyond repair. And little by little, he could feel his warm blood trickling out, leaving him in the cold. He didn't have much longer to live.
Helpless and desperate, Levi did something that he had never done before, something that had always seemed silly and useless to him. He prayed.
He wasn't sure how exactly this worked, or who he should be praying to, so he squeezed his tear-filled eyes shut and silently begged anyone – anything – to help him. Anything that could hear. Anything that could keep him alive long enough to fulfill his promise.
"I'll do anything...I'll give you anything..." he vowed, misery and hatred replacing the blood that was leaving his veins. "Just please, let me kill Zeke."
Levi waited a moment, but nothing happened. He shouldn't have been surprised, and yet, he found himself sinking even deeper into despair. He had no hope. No anything. He was going to die.
But then Levi sensed it – how time suddenly seemed to stop. He could no longer feel his pain, or even the ground beneath him. He opened his eyes, and the world had gone completely still. The silence was deafening.
"My, my, what have we here?"
The voice was unfamiliar to him. However, its purr was alluring, enticing. It was pure sin, and Levi felt that if he wasn't careful, that voice could convince him to do some very unwise things.
Even though his pain was gone, Levi still found it difficult to move, as if his body were too heavy. Yet, slowly, he forced his head to turn. so that he could look at the source of that sound. A woman – or what appeared to be one, at least – stood about two meters away, dressed in black attire that was both luxurious and seductive. She could have been a human, except for the horns that adorned her head, and the bright red eyes that gazed at him from beneath her long, dark lashes.
"Who are you?" he rasped.
She clicked her tongue. "Rude. You summoned me, yet you don't even know who I am?"
Levi said nothing, watching as her high-heeled boots leisurely closed the distance between them, the sight reminiscent of a predator stalking its prey. When she reached his side, she sat back on her heels, preventing her expensive-looking outfit from touching the ground.
She was even more striking up-close – easily the most beautiful woman Levi had ever seen. She possessed unnaturally perfect skin, as well as full, soft lips that were painted red to match her eyes. Her body was one that any woman would kill to have – strong and lithe, yet curvy in all the right places.
Levi felt himself being lulled by that beauty, but in the back of his mind, his instincts were screaming at him to run – if only he could. After spending his life first in the Underground, and then fighting titans, Levi was quick to recognize danger. And this woman was easily the most dangerous thing he had ever encountered.
Her blood-red gaze locked with his as she stated, "I am a Demon Princess of Hell, and one of the Seven Generals of Satan. My name is Wrath."
"Wrath...?" Levi breathed, not understanding. The blood loss had left his mind too fuzzy to process.
She nodded, giving him a haughty smirk. "You should be honored that I answered your summons, human."
Levi's brow furrowed. "Summons...what?" he rasped.
