It was beautiful, until it wasn't

The weeks leading up to the Yule Ball was hectic.

You had gotten a few invites from a bunch of people but you were holding out hope for that one boy of your dreams to ask you.

Cedric Diggory.

You knew it was a long shot but you were still holding out a glimmer of hope.

Ron and Harry weren't having as much luck finding dates as well as you, Hermione, and Delilah were.

You could tell that Harry wanted to ask Del and you even tried to give him a pep talk into asking her to the ball knowing she would absolutely say yes.

"This is mad" Ron says lowly.

You and the quartet were in study hall working on a few assignments.

"At this rate, we'll be the only ones in our year without dates" Ron mutters.

Snape comes around and pushes Ron's head forward, signaling him to stop talking.

You, Del, and Hermione give the boys low glares before returning back to your work.

"Well, us and Neville" Ron chuckles.

Del looks at them.

"It might interest you to know that Neville's already got someone" she informs softly.

Ron sighs.

"Ugh. Now i'm really depressed" he mutters lowly.

Ron looks up from his paper and at you three.

"Who are you lot going with?" he inquires.

You three stay silent, already knowing each others invite reps.

So far you and Del are going with nobody.

Hermione got asked by Viktor Krum but was holding out hope that Ron would come around to his senses soon and ask her.

And Delilah was hoping that Lorenzo Berkshire would ask her but nope, he ended up asking Daphne Greengrass to the ball.

You kept urging Harry to ask her but you could tell that he really fancied Cho Chang.

You secretly hoped that if he went with her you could go with Cedric but her and Cedric were already official so that bummed you out.

"Who are you going with?" Ron asks his brother Fred in a whisper.

He throws a paper ball at Angelina Johnson, sixth year, and chaser of the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

She glares at him and he asks her which a smile spreads across her face as she says yes.

"Oi, Hermione, you're a girl" Ron starts.

Harry nudges Ron trying to tell him that Snape was coming.

Snape hits them both in the head with his book.

Earning a chuckle from you and Del.

"It's one thing for a bloke to show up alone. For a girl, it's just sad" Ron says.

Hermione glares at him.

"I won't be going alone, because believe it or not, someone's already asked me!" she hisses sharply, before getting up and handing her assignment into Snape.
