i love you

'there's nothing you could do or say, i can't escape the way i love you'

Lyra spent the day anticipating her meeting with Dumbledore and worrying about how she would make it up to George. After she finished an early dinner, she parted from her friends and started her climb to the headmaster's office.

She approached a statue of a Griffin standing in the way of the staircase she needed to access. "I have no clue if you are alive or anything, but I sort of need to get through?"

The stone remained still.

"Hello? Maybe I wasn't clear enough..." Lyra cleared her throat. "PLEASE MOVE. I NEED TO SEE PROFESSOR DUMBLE-"

"Miss Black."

Lyra clenched her eyes shut as she slowly turned around and faced the man she needed. "Professor Dumbledore... I was just - uh - looking for you!"

The man nodded and gave her a polite smile. "Acid Pops."

"What on earth...?" Lyra mumbles to herself, thinking the man was just naming candies until she saw the big Griffin hop out of place. Dumbledore hopped into the place where it just vacated. He stood there, and it took her a moment to realise he was waiting for her. She walked up and shuffled awkwardly next to the tall man.

The staircase started moving, up, up, up, very much like the escalators she'd seen at muggle shopping centres. She caught one last glimpse of the Griffin and narrowed her eyes. How dare it make her seem so stupid?

The silence that fell between Lyra and Dumbledore was so awkward that she felt as though she'd rather have to braid Snape's greasy hair. Finally, they arrived at the door she assumed was to his office.

He opened it and let her pass through first. There were many words to describe Dumbledore's office, but boring was not one of them. There were many small silvery instruments splayed out over the many curious surfaces, and the circular shape only complemented the busy space. She couldn't name a single one of the objects displayed, but she recognised one thing. It was a time turner. Lyra had read about them in a book before. Rare objects and extremely dangerous. She wondered why Dumbledore had one. Because he's Dumbledore, she answered herself.

Lyra followed him up a couple of steps to his grand desk. He had a large armchair on the opposing side, and two chairs that looked awfully similar to the ones scattered around the Gryffindor common room sat on the side closest to her. Dumbledore sat on his chair, and he gave off an immense amount of power that Lyra felt pounding through her blood.

Taking a seat, Lyra looked curiously at him. "Why did you call me here, Professor?"

He drew a deep breath and Lyra knew this wouldn't be a quick visit. "Miss Black, you and I both know that Time is extraordinarily dangerous to meddle with," he motioned to the time turner on the desk. "Which is why I've been ever so curious to learn how your dear friend Miss Davis and her sister arrived here."
