Dumbledore is a very complex character. He was always seen as a hero, a prodigy, an inspiration even. He was respected by many and even feared by voldemort. I saw him as the same when I first finished reading the series. But let me just say, with the rise of harry potter on social media and all new character evaluations, I've been swayed with the public on many of my oppinions. However, I re-read this series and re-watched the movies to get a clean slate.

I'll start off with my initial oppinion...

Dumbledore was a great person

As you can see, I was pretty basic. I didn't really think on his actions all that much. I knew he was a great person that also made mistakes. Not much else to say.

How my oppinion had been swayed by social media...

I had found a lot more sides to Dumbledore. A lot of people had been claiming and reciting evidence showing how Dumbledore was manipulative and used everyone. To start off, the way he left harry in an abusive home with no support. While this may have been good for him, Dumbledore had stepped in 16 years after harry had been with the durselys. And, the way he had manipulated harry. Like snape had said, "you raised him like a pig for slaughter". I knew he didn't really have any other options but I still found that odd. Dumbledore was ready to sacrifice a teenage boy. Another aspect of Dumbledore i had seen was the way he left harry alone. I had realized how odd it was, especially when he was younger, how harry always had to deal with voldemort. Obviously this had to be done in order for the series to be interesting but still. Dumbledore had been so passive on the sorcerers stone situation. If a couple of 11 year olds could get through the stone's defenses, it obviously wasn't protected properly enough. And again, in book 2, Dumbledore knew harry was battling tom riddle in the chamber of secrets yet he only offered fawkes and the sorting hat to help him. Again, I know this worked out but I think when you see a 12 year old battling a dark and evil wizard, u go and help them. And another annoyance I have is Dumbledore's lack of help to the marauders. Remus had been homeless, poor, and struggling emotionally because he lost his best friends. Dumbledore had offered no help to remus until 13 years later during Harry's third year for some odd reason. Considering Dumbledore was known for his kindness, I found it odd he did nothing. And again with sirius, Dumbledore had offered no help. Dumbledore, known for his ability to look for the good in people, he couldn't recognize after 7 years of knowing how close james and sirius were, that sirius would never betray james. Okay, so I'm probably just being picky considering I'm sure these were J.K Rowling's fault bc they r plotholes.

Right now:

Dumbledore is innocent. To start, he was not perfect and he definetly made mistakes. I actully know see this as something that makes Dumbledore come to life. He's not perfect, he's human. When he left harry with the dursely's he was just trying to protect him. While it may not have been ideal, it was necessary. He did occasionally send ppl like McGonagall to check on harry. And when he left harry alone to fight voldemort, he always had his reasons. The first book, Dumbledore was away and he had no idea about the attempt to take the sorcerers stone. When he heard about Harry being in trouble, he got back to him asap. And In book 2, I believe Dumbledore had known harry had to be the one to defeat Tom riddle. He knew he would not be able to fight all of Harry's battles. The remus and sirius predicament was most likely a plot hole. And with the argument about him being a horrible person for needing harry to die, it had to happen. Dumbledore knew how to sort out his priorities and the whole Wizarding world was more important than one teenage boy. As sad as it was, there was no other way. Dumbledore had obviously been very scared for harry as we had seen Dumbledore crying in kings cross because of his mistakes.

In conclusion, my true oppinion is that Dumbledore is a complicated character. He had so much pressure put on him frome even such a young age. He may be the greatest wizard of the century, but he wasn't perfect.

Let me know if I missed anything important or your oppinions!! Hate will be ignored!
