For as long as anyone could remember, it's always been Finley and Annabeth.
But no one knows their story.
Annabeth and Finley were friends before they ran away at the age of seven. They grew up next door to each other.
When Annabeth ran told Finley she planned to run away from her family that hated her, her brunette friend was on board almost immediately. Annabeth never questioned why Finley was so opened to the idea, she knew Ms. Jones, Finley's mom, hated her.
But it was more than that.
Finley's mother didn't hate her. The woman despised her daughter. After her father, Apollo, left Nora Jones while she was pregnant, the brunette became spiteful. She hated her daughter even after she was born.
For some reason, Nora never gave Finley up.
No, she kept her daughter. She would use her words as weapons. Sometimes, a generic tennis shoe became a weapon.
Some of the scars future Finely got, were not just from mythological monsters.
At the break of midnight, Finley met with Annabeth. Both seven-year-olds had a backpack on. Their shoelaces were tied (after Annabeth taught Finley how to tie them) and think jackets covered their bodies.
One night, cold and hungry, the two girls were hiding in Richmond Ironworks. Each clutched a different tool in hand. Annabeth a hammer, and Finley a metal wrench. The iron sheet they were hiding under was removed and the young girls, believing it was a monster, attacked.
The things they attacked weren't monsters. They were humans . . .well half-humans.
After nearly seriously injuring Thalia Grace, twelve-year-old definition of a punk rock female, and Luke Castellan, fourteen-year-old with lanky build and sandy hair, the groups of two became a group of four. Luke had given Annabeth a bronze knife.
Thalia gave Finley a short sword. It was a beautiful Imperial Gold sword with an emerald stone in the center of the guard.
"Light Bringer," Thalia had told Finley. "Now this isn't easily concealed, Finny."
The girl with spiky black hair took the sword from Finley's hand. She rubbed her pale finger in a circle around the gem. Where the sword shrunk down into the size of a ring. In the center of the ring, lay a small green stone.
"Here," Thalia handed her the ring. "We all have our weapons. Light Bringer doesn't fit Luke nor myself. However, it seems to fit you."
With wide eyes, a seven-year-old Finley place the ring on her finger.
"It will fit to your ring size. All you have to do, is rub the gem and Light Bringer comes out to play," Thalia said.
To this day, Finley cherished the gift. Light Bringer was her weapon.
It wasn't long until the group of four ran into Grover Underwood, a satyr. His job was to deliver the group to a safe place. Unfortunately, they were lead into a trap.
A cyclops chamber.
By using the voices of loved ones, the cyclops was able to lure Luke, Grover, and Thalia into a trap. When the cyclops used the voice of Mr.Chase, Annabeth had gone forward and stabbed the cyclops.
This gave them enough time to escape.
Unfortunately, they had to run to camp due to the pack of monsters chasing them. Thalia insisted she stay behind and fight them off. Luke struggled to pull a kicking and screaming Finley Jones away from Thalia as she fought the monsters.
In the end, she died.
Zeus, taking pity on his daughter, turned Thalia into a pine tree.
This became Finley's favorite place. When she wasn't with her sister-figure, Annabeth, she was found sitting in Thalia's Tree. She told her about her day. She told her about the struggles she faced with training. She spoke of how she felt alone with her own siblings.
The first campfire after arriving at camp, Finley was claimed by Apollo.
When she got to her bunk, she was awarded with an applause. Most of her siblings began to shun her once she showed no talent. Only two of her siblings showed care in her; Micheal Yew and Will Solace.
This is exactly why when she woke up with ear things under her pillow, she went straight to Micheal.
"Fin," he said quietly. "These are headphones. I think it's a gift from dad."
"Why would he-?"
"I dunno, Fin," Micheal frowned. "There's a note."
"Can you read it?" Finley asked nervously. "I can't read."
"It's alright," he assured "a lot of us can't. Not unless it's in Greek." He handed her the paper. "Try it."
*it's in English, but actually written in Greek
Finley,
As the best father one could ask, I have presented you with headphones. They don't need wires nor are they a monster beckon.
In order to get music to play, think of a song. Then it will play. In order to make a playlist, tap the left earphone and millions of songs will appear in you mind. All you have to do is decide which songs you like and don't like. Then you can sort the songs you like into playlists.
-Apollo
"He gave me a music thingy," Finley said. "All I have to do is figure out what music I like and it will play."
From that day on, Finley almost always had her headphones. She and Annabeth could often be seen together listening to the songs play as they talked and laughed.
When Annabeth first heard the Great Prophecy, she told Finley. It was unknown what was going to happen, but both girls were a part of it.
Each time a new camper came, Annabeth would wonder if they were "the one".
Finley, on the other hand, decided to focus less on when this mystery camper was coming. She elected to focus more upon her swordsmanship skills.
When "the one" finally came, Finley was less than thrilled. He was nothing but an annoying twat with some big powers.
However, over their first quest, the two eventually became friends. They bonded over their sass battles, which drove Annabeth insane with their constant banter.
Luke, as it turned out, was the traitor. It was something that shocked Finley and Annabeth, but it was the truth. Finley took almost instant notice to this.
He betrayed her. He left her. He chose power over family.
And that's something Finley could never forgive him for.
Annabeth had gone home for the first part of the school year, but soon returned.
Percy, "the one", had gone home to his mom. During one of her more boring days spent alone at camp, Finley had sent him a picture of her as a joke. She soon learned from Annabeth, who had been spying on Percy with her Yankees cap on, that he carried it around with him.
Once again, the trio raced to save the camp. They traveled to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Percy sent Clarisse with it back to camp to heal Thalia's tree which held the barrier.
It worked a little too well.
Thalia was no longer one with the tree. She practically rose from the dead.
This made Finley thrilled. She and Annabeth made it their mission to fill her in on the happenings of the world. They told her of their quests. They told her of Percy. They told her of Luke, which was hard on the trio. They told her of their parentage.
It was alright until Annabeth decided to take a swan dive off of a cliff.
