chapter 4 (part 1)

Abigail's sudden change of attitude started to look more pleasing. In the past, if Clara spoke to her like that, she would've lost her mind. Something definitely changed after she came back to life, but...

Norma continued to observe Abigail with a complicated expression on her face.

She noticed that Abigail's purple eyes land on Clara's ear. Abigail stared at it for a while and said,

"Clara."

"Yes, your Majesty?"

"Your earrings are very nice."

Hidden beneath the maids hair, Clara wore a blue earrings. Norma felt like her heart dropped.

'Clara you idiot! I told you accessories are a taboo!'

Abigail grinned as she spoke to Clara. Her smile resembled to a demon from hell.

Clara realized her mistake the moment she saw that smile.

"I-I'm sorry! I swear I won't ever wear earrings again!"

Visibly pale, Clara tried to remove her earrings quickly. She was in such a hurry that she made her ear bleed.

Abigail jumped at her feet and quickly grabbed the girl's hands,

"Clara! Calm down! You're bleeding."

Norma was at a loss. Abigail cleaning up a servants blood? Not punishing the maid for getting blood on the carpet? Right now, Abigail's face only showed worry and spoke as if she was the one who got injured.

" I was only complementing you. No need to be wary."

"R-really...?" Clara looked more shocked than anything.

Abigail spoke in a soft voice, trying to calm the startled girl.

"Of course, and from now on, you may wear whatever you please. And please inform the others about this as well."
"Ye-yes your Majesty." Clara bearly respond.

After confirming that the bleeding stopped, Abigail took off her handkerchief.

"The bleeding stopped. But I adivice you to see a doctor."

Clara passed this moment in a daze. To think that the county's Queen would treat her so nicely...

Abigail didn't even see Clara's reaction and remained rather apologetic. She glanced at Clara's Bloody ears for a moment and walked over to her accessory table.

"Ah,come to think of it. There's this earring pair that I don't use."

As she opened the box on the table, various valuable stones and gems of all colors started shining from inside.

Diamonds, Garnets, Emeralds, Coral, Pearls, Sapphires.... It looked like a small museum, as if all the jewels in the world could be found in this one chest. Clara, as she came from a noble family, had jewelries as well,but this was on an entirely different level.

There was such a ridiculous amount of jewelry inside.

Abigail picked up a pair of blue sapphire earrings from the chest, ones the same shade as Clara's earrings. Though this were much more expensive and shiny.

"Here, I will give you these."

She carefully held out her hand.

Extremely shocked, Clara waves her hand in refusal.

"N-no! I can't accept something like this!"

"I am not using them anymore. Plus, you'd be helping me since I was planning to get rid of most of this."

Clara's vision got blurred hearing Abigail. Abigail took the opportunity and placed the earrings on her hand. She then turned to Norma, who flinched in surprise.

" Peridot would look lovely on you, Norma."

"Your Majesty! I-I do not need anything. They would be a waste on me."

"Nonsense. Actually, I wanted to give you a gift on behalf of all the things you had to put up with. I know you've suffered alot because of me. Norma...I'm sorry."

The apology was awkward just as the gift was. Norma was speechless as Abigail placed a beautiful green necklace on her hand. The two maids didn't say a word of gratitude, but Abigail didn't except any from them either. She simply put the jewelry box to it's place and said,

"I'll be giving gifts to the other maids as well. So don't be burdened by this, all right? Now then, I'll be going outside for a bit."

Abigail quickly left the room, leaving the two speechless maids behind. The room became completely quiet. Norma's mouth was wide open,unable to gasp what has happened. She unconsciously muttered,

"Did she really change...?"
